just place these files on your tom tom in the correct folder and they will work fine.

  • Just to add to heathens comments about installing POIs for the TomToms. Your computer will not read them. However you just need to drop the ov2 and bmp files into your great britain maps folder - it is that simple! Your TomTom will read them from there. You can then set your alerts to ensure you are warned when approaching a camera. I recommend you visit pocket gps world for full instructions on downloading and installing the speed camera database.

POIs are available from the following websites for free:

    www.tomtomfree.com
    www.tomtompoi.net
    www.poihandler.com
    poiplace.oabsoftware.nl
    www.dirksoft.co.uk
    www.poiedit.com

Hope this is of help to all you TomTom owners.

    :hello:

nice post major,i would recommend using poi edit as this is a very useful programe.allows u to just connect your tom tom to your pc say once a month and automaticaly download all the latest speed cameras or any other poi which have been added to the database that u want during that month.

no need to copy to the correct folder or search for new pois as its all done for you,ive used it for a few months and its very convenient and free aswell:xmassmile

    Hi Heathern

I was all ready to go to pocket gps and get thier speed camera warning thing for the tomtom but do you think its better to use poi edit then as it sounds easier to update?

Does the poi edit include points of interest as well as speed cameras or are they separate?

I got a 256MB kingston card so I've got to transfer everything on that too plus before doing the speed cams and pois I was going to update to the newest version ending in 20 than the 10 I already have

Can you change the warnings on poi edit from beeps to warning voices like 'warning gatsby camera ahead' do you think its better to have vocal warnings thsn beeps?
    Thanx

    hi ladies

i dont think poi edit will work with tom tom stand alone units as i use it with a tom tom navigater pda unit which has limitless pois unlike tom toms which have poi limits.

lady k the speed camera database used is from pocket gps world so will be the same,it will also fit no problem onto a 256 mb card.

it is better to have warning voices than beeps imo but again i use pda checkpoint software for this which is not compatable with your unit.

im sure there are programs like these which are designed for tom tom units,i guess the best place to look is pocketgpsworld etc

a guide can be found here for adding the gps world database to your tt go and one

    Thanx Heathern

I think I read somewhere on pocket gps that I can change the beeps to voice warnings for tom tom one, I'll find out anyway. But the poi edit sounded good but obviously not suitable for tomtom one

Really I just have to rem that just coz it says tomtom it might not mean tomtom one compatable then. So that means the above links may not necessarily be for tomtom one

I will be attempting all this stuff tomorrow I just hope its foolproof :)
    Thanx

    hi lady k

good luck,it may seem a bit daunting but as long as u make a back up then if the worst happens u can always install it again.

u need software for tom tom go 300/500/700 or one
not tom tom navigater 1-5 which are the pda ones.

    this link will help u

I'd love SatNav the trouble is I can't remember the last time I drove somewhere when I didn't know the exact route!

Useful though if your job is on the road or if you do a lot of European driving but otherwise just another gadget that we most probably don't need.........
