    1) only Speed Camera & Redlight icons will display in navigation mode, u need to convert bmp files to 8 or 16 bit.

    2) Use POI Edit from https://www.poiedit.com, select NAVMan CSV format for conversion, once it is geneated, open it in notepad and remove top 3 lines. Thats It!

    Cheers !

Thanks - re (1) do you mean convert using a relevant drawing package? Or something else to convert?!

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

Most of the POIs available are mainly TomTom .ov2 format, you can convert using tools into CSV format.

Got it - so basically there're all text files, but Garmin only accepts .csv format by the sounds of things. Using the converter, I should be able to use pretty much whatever I can get hold of.

    Cheers.

Could someone tell me the main difference between a TomTom 300 and 500? We drive mainly round England and only need directions and speed cameras. I think the TomTom sounds best for me as I am not technical and it all comes preloaded

Mian difference is the 500 allows you to use hands free calling with a bluetooth phone. I was very tempted to get it but £450 is a bit steep.
  • I see Halfords are advertising a palmOne pocket PC with SatNav loaded including voice guidance for £179.99

  • Anyone interested in the Garmin i3 and saving money - that whats this site is for after all

I couldn't find a way to link to the specific thread so will quote it here

    "
Whilst £199 is bargain for the i3 - if you have an old Egg Blue or the new Egg money card you can get 10% discount by ordering online at Currys. Go to the Egg website and the shopping link, click on Currys and then shop as normal. When you go to checkout you can use a 5% discount code NHS247(freely available on various websites) which takes the price to 189.95. Use your Egg card to pay. As soon as the purchase appears on your Egg statement a further 10% discount will be added taking the unit to £170.14.

Just receive mine and can confirmthat this is the bottom line price. Also works for other items purchased from Currys.

any newish pda will be fine but i would strongly advise buying 1 with a built in gps reciever as this saves running extra wires around your car.

i would suggest a mitac mio 168 or one of its many clones as these have proven to be good reliable units and are compatible with all the navigation software available.

ive used mine for over a year and has been excellent,

the link above is just for the pda only but u can buy the mapping software included elswhere or even have it preinstalled on the sd card for u if your not confident setting it up yourself.
