I went to maplins who said they were not expecting delivery to mid oct. The website helpline says they wont have any in stock till the end of september.

    Anyone any other news?
I've checked on ebay and found a completed item sale for the I3 where it was for sale at £130 - seems very cheap?

    re Garmin i3

How about that screen 1.7" x 1.5" sounds very small ?
but I suppose apart from the initial route setting, you only really need to listen !
anyone using a gps in a peugeot 307 ( or any other car) with one of those metallised windscreens - does it work or is an external aerial reqd

I have a Garmin extrex vista and whilst it's not sat nav it is a gps device and it only works in my wifes renault(with metallised screen) when I hold it against the shaded part of the screen at the top by the mirror. This is non metallised so that you can fit dart auto toll tags etc. A remote gps antenna mounted here should work (extra cost though).

  • So, whats the status with Garmin i3? Does anyone know when its going to be in the shops? Do I have to order it and wait for it? :( Or will I have to wait for the shops to stock them and queue up to get it?

I want one to help me with my long journey into North Wales in 2 weeks time...

And does Maplin fit into the car for you?
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Hey, Welcome to North Wales!! You'll need the speed camera software for that journey ;)

Would like to buy a satnav for my hubby for Xmas, whilst cost is important what is most vital is that it is easy to set up and operate (as he still presses the wrong buttons the tv remote and we've had this set for about 2 yrs!). I'm not much better and it will be me who has to set it up  So please, can anyone help - using simple language too, no technical stuff ;)
  • Not saying its the one you should get, but there are a couple of manuals on line which explain how to use this one, the basics of which would apply to most

    Gettting started guide
    Here

    Users Manual
    Here

Apart from which one to get, a couple of concerns (for me) you might want to consider, are if or how well it might work in a car with metalised screen (quite a few have these now, to reduce heat build up due to sun), plus if you are already using the cigar lighter socket for phone hand free, you c ould end up with quite a christmas tree of 12v connectors to power it, could end looking like the inside of a taxi - wires everwhere

note:Seems screen question was answered a few posts ago (post #104)
  • Is it not better to get a PDA with an ariel?, surely you get the sat nav and all that goes along with PDA, all for the same money
    :T    :j  :money: ! :money: money!!money :A !money!
  • Do I presume right that the Acer n35 with GPS will give latitude/longtitude/height coordinates as well as map reading????
Also how does one add the speed camera information????
