Rice is 5 syns per ounce (dry weight) on a Red day if anyone wanted to do SuzySu'z curry.

I agree with Keren, but 28g of rice once it's cooked is only 2 Syns and, personally speaking, an ounce of brown rice with my meal is very filling.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
really....it's not hard to understand :T0 -
Just a note to everyone:
Im not sure buying 'value' bacon is great for SW as it's got loads more fat on it and it's more difficult to remove...Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -

Unfortunately I'm a bit of a rice fiendwhich is why I do mostly green days. I'm planning to do a Red day tomorrow but with all the lovely green day food I'll have in I think I'll find it hard. I'll give it a go though.

Ok....here is this week's FREE on GREEN recipe:
Barley and Butternut Hotpot
Serves: 4 Preparation time: 15 mins Cooking time: 1 hr 20mins
50g/2 oz pearl barley
2 carrots, peeled and cut into thick slices
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
1 bouquet garni
1 litre/1.75 pints chicken stock made from...yes, you've guessed it....Bovril!
800g/1lb 12oz butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and flesh cut into bite-sized pieces
salt and freshly ground black pepper
To garnish:
chopped thyme leaves
Method:
Place the barley in a large saucepan, cover with water and bring to the boil. Cook for 45 mins or until tender. Drain and return to the saucepan with the carrots, garlic, bouquet garni and stock. Bring to the boil, cover, reduce the heat to medium and simmer gently for 15-20 mins.
Add the butternut and continue to cook gently for 10-15 mins. Season well, discard the bouquet garni and serve immediately, garnished with chopped thyme leaves.
Might make a nice lunch??YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

I love green days too Keren.....seems a lot more filling with all the rice, pasta potatoes you are allowed. However, I seem to lose more on red days? Having said that, we don't eat red meat so only really eat chicken and fish.
Does anyone have any ideas for lunches that we can take to work? All I end up eating is bloomin' Ryvita with extra light Philly which can get a bit boring. I do have salads in the summer, but need something a bit different as it's not quite salad weather yet.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

I'm exactly the same - I lose more on Red days.
How about cous cous for a green day? With spring onion, tomatoes, cucumber, chick peas and some spices? Or Spanish tortilla made with onion, potato, tomatoes, peppers? Would need making the previous day but you could slice it and take as much as you like.
There is a recipe for lentil slices on the SW support thread somewhere which I fancy trying soon.
I've just looked up the Ainsley Harriott flavoured cous cous I have in the cupboard and it is 1 syn for 100g (made up weight) and half the whole packet is 130g when made up so I could have half the box tonight for 1.5 syns and give the rest to the OH. I'll have a chicken breast as my other b choice and some ratatouille I batch cooked."Stay Wonky":D

Hi Suzy - work lunches are always my stumbling block because I have a big appetite and end up hungry and thats when the chocolate comes out!
I have it sussed now and have
cold savoury rice in a tub with 2 cold boiled eggs, beetroot and pickled onions. I also have salad bits in with it. It is really filling and apparantly beetroot is supposed to supress chocolate cravings.
If you have an oven in work stick a jacket potato in a few hours before your lunch time or if you have a microwave take in stews or whatever from your tea the night before and heat it up. x x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

If you like a lot of bolognaisse or curry for tea you can serve it on beansprouts which if remeber right are a speed food and free as a replacement for rice.
Sounds a bit wierd but try it - it is really nice. x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

I keep meaning to have a go at the pasta 'crisps' - it's cooked pasta coated in undiluted Bovril and then baked on a tray until crunchy. Apparently they are really nice as a snack.
