Presumabley the churchill cover will be identical in the small print to the nationwide? Can annyone confirm this? I have had a good read but its a bit confusing...

I second that - can anyone help? Please...
  • I spoke to Nationwide Customer Services today and the guy (Richard) was really helpful when I queried the T&Cs for the offer. Basically, he confirmed the details Martin got in his e-mail query - excesses must be within £25 either way, other policy needs Euro cover and courtesy car (although he never mentioned anything about things like stereo cover and medical expenses, so I might have some negotiating power here if Nationwide start to get shirty about paying out). Despite being nervous (like loads of other people have said!) I've taken out NW policy (paid online). Richard told me that the 'like for like' policy would need to be an online print-out if you buy online from NW. I'll now wait to see what happens on the money-back front - I can always cancel and go with someone else if NW don't pay out. Also, despite the 14-day coolong off period, I can't see anything in NW's T&Cs which says you have to pay any admin charge (etc) outside of this time if you decide to cancel - but if anyone can correct me on that, I'd be interested....

In any case, I'll let you know what happens...

I checked the £750 cover for Stereos with elephant.co.uk - they won't/don't let you pay extra to increase the cover to £1000. NW may try to weasel out of it from there...
  • I'd be genuinely surprised if NW do try any weaselling - I have banked with them for 18 years and always found them pretty good. What I wonder is whether they are doing this to obtain competitive info they could not obtain any other way?

I mean, you have to provide them with the full details of your better quote, so they can do an exact comparison and hone their quotation calculations accordingly. This would be incredibly labour-intensive to check manually themselves, but this way the punters do it for them.

I got a quote last week from NW for the car and it was 160 quid over what I'm paying now. I just went back and did it again and it's gone down so it's now only about 20 quid more. Makes me wonder if they have been factoring competitive quotes they've seen into the prices they are offering?

OK I have checked my Bell Direct policy just taken out on one car (but my second car is up for renewal shortly....).

Europe - 90 days cover free per year for any trip of up to 30 days consecutive lenth
Stereo cover - up to 15% of car value or £750.
Loan Car - whilst a car is being repaired you get a loan car.

This seems to match the main concerns so it seems a good match to me?
  • Taken out NW car insurance even though i found cheaper cover from Swift Cover. Spent £100 more!! GULP!!!
Should reclaim £200 then. Having trouble getting claim form at the moment, NW call centre says only the local Branch can issue a claim form, if i go in in person! Any one else had this prob?
I hope this works, i'm getting a bit nervious.
By the way, has anyone noticed how NW Motor schedule is exactly the same layout as Directline. Are they both part of Churchill?
Will let you know how i get on.
Good work Martin. Lets SCREW them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :T
  • I have taken out the Nationwide Car insurance too - £331. I was already shopping around anyway and found the same for £224 elsewhere. So I phoned up to get a Price Promise Claim and none of them claim to know anything about and I have had my call diverted to every dept there is in Nationwide!!! Im going to try again today but if it fails, then I am going into my local branch with a copy of my T&Cs that I printed out.

  • I just phoned my local branch to see if they have the forms and they have said to pop in with the other quote and they will take a look at it to ensure it is like for like and they will do the paperwork and get it sent off.

I can get like for like quotes about £500 cheaper than nationwide.
Has anybody succesfully claimed this much back yet as i'm weary of cancelling my insurance and spending nearly double if I won't definetely get it back.
  • My policy with esure expires on 28th of this month (they are quoting £222 for renewal). The cheapest quote (with NIG Options) I've been able to find is is 171.05. I've just renewed with Nationwide (181.65), so not too much is at stake, if, when I try to claim double the difference, the policy isn't like-for-like where it counts. If it comes off, 20 quid is 20 quid.

One thing I can't get my head around is that their "within 28 days" to assess the claim will overrun the 14 days cooling-off period. Will I be penalised if they don't honour my claim in time and I decide to go elsewhere?
