    From their T+C's:
a valid claim must include an original quote dated after the commencement date of your Nationwide car insurance policy, but within 28 days, together with a copy of your Nationwide car insurance schedule

Does this mean that if (hypothetically) I take out a policy today which starts on 01/12/2005, I have to wait until the 1st of December to get an alternative quote to submit to Nationwide?

This then falls outside the end date of 31/10/05 for this deal and I can't take it up :(
  • Nationwide have taken their policy document off their website - at least I can't find it anymore.

To view it search Google with this:

    policy document site:nationwide.co.uk/insurance/car_insurance

and use the cached page. ;)

If I recall correctly, the t&cs specifically said it could be withdrawn at any time. My mum has just collected an application form. I wonder if they'll honour it?

If you start a quote, there is a link on the left for a policy summary. If you click it, the popup will have a link to the policy document.

I think you're getting confused? The offer is still there, someone was just saying they couldn't get the policy document from the site...

    My Story

On the basis of Martin's initial advice and a cheaper quote from Admiral (£376)I took out insurance with Nationwide (£490). I managed to get a written quote from Admiral and (eventually) the claim form from a Nationwide branch.

    So far so good.

Then I read this forum. The Admiral quote has different (lower) audio cover and not the same level of comprehensive cover in EU etc. (my policy is comprehensive).

Focussing on audio and green card/EU issues I have looked at the cover provided by a few insurers.

Bad news : the following differ from Nationwide in terms of audio and EU - RBS;NU; NatWest, Admiral; Zurich; Lombard; Elephant.

Of these Elephant was the closest (Same EU cover but only £750 audio cover). Hmmm.

Churchill underwrites the Nationwide Insurance. However, Churchill also underwrites other brands of insurer - Lloyds/TSB; Pearl and I think (Bell Direct). However, quotes from these insurers were no cheaper than Nationwide.

I will give Admiral and Elephant a phone to see if I can get them to vary their policy to match the Nationwide one. But I am not holding my breath. I will let you know.

So I suppose I submit a claim based on the Elephant quote (£318) and see how fussy Nationwide are re the audio cover.

Also there may be some mileage in calling a specialist old fashioned hihgh street broker (if there are any left). I was thinking of Boncaster. Any thoughts?
  • Well, Ihave just written to Nationwide with their quote (£208) and that from Prudential (£194): both quotes are underwritten by Churchill on identical format letters, save for the letterhead.
Let's wait and see what develops: I did buy the policy from Nationwide, so on the face of it, the claim should be valid!
    I'll keep you posted.

I took out nationwide insurance and have submitted a claim using a bell direct quote (part of admiral). The customer service at Nationwide told me the bell euro cover was "close enough" and the audio cover wasn't an issue as "£750 cover was good enough". I Will post the outcome here..
  • For those of you struggling to get the claim form it is available on their website http://www.nationwide.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/C1AA6961-F173-4114-B82C-6AB25821B466/0/P5121_Jul05_Internet_opt.pdf
Hubbys insurance runs out next week, NW quote £800, Admiral £358 incl European cover, got to be worth a try!!
  • Hi. I insured my car after using the web sites quoted and thought I had got a good deal. A few days later I saw a Nationwide advert on the back of a bus and later read about their offer here. My new insurer says that if I cancel within 14 days I must pay a £25 fee and 7.5% of the policy but if I cancel after 14 days i must pay £25 and 20% of the policy. This sounds like extortion! Are all insurers this bad? This is budget by the way. I am amazed you are penalised even during the cooling off period; surely this should be penalty free? And 20%, one fifth of the policy, this is inexcusable!
