Thank you marshallka, no I didn't ask to speak to the manager, which I should have now I know. I think I was a bit gobsmacked to be told the department had closed and couldn't see myself getting anywhere on the phone, so decided to start again by going to my branch. Will look up HSBC threads now. Am new to forums, still finding my way around. Many thanks.0

Many thanks for your reply - I have since downloaded a complaint form off the FOS website which I have filled out and is ready to be posted. I will do it on my way home from work tonight! I will just sit and wait to hear from the FOS now! Thanks for your words of enncouragement.
Another query you may able to help me with - Barclaycard wrote to me a few months ago saying they have lowered my credit limit and ever since I have been inundated with over limit fees due to interest rates and PPI - do you know if there is anything I can do to up my limit back to what it was? If it had stayed the same there would be no problem with going over my limit as I pay off the minimum each month sometimes more if I can afford to. Thanks again!
Hi Aquarius. With regards to your second paragraph, I would begin by discussing this with Barclaycard (if you haven't already) to see if the credit limit can be reinstated. However, assuming it isn't a 'glitch' in the system, they seem to want to reduce your borrowing for some reason.
Either way, you can send off the template letters from this site to reclaim your charges. Being persistent will pay off. I was going to accept a reduced offer from MBNA, however, I got the whole lot from them after 2 letters. Like with PPI reclaims, send letters by recorded post. I think its pretty low of them to leave you in that situation. PS - are you reclaiming PPI on this card?MSE - The Stig0 -

i went into the halifax today and i paid of my loan early, i looked at the computer screen and on my £2300 loan. i had paid £503.57 insurance.. i never knew i had this and i complained,, the halifax are trying to make it difficult for me to get a refund.i asked the advisor to send me a copy of the loan agreement and this is now in the post. first the halifax advisor said.. it says here that you took the loan out over the phone, so you'll have to phone this number 845 600 6007
i got home and i phoned halifax insurance,, i gave them my account number and they said..yes you had insurance,, i said" i always say no to insurance to keep the costs down. i believe i was mis-sold this policy" she said, "when the courior came round your house with the paper work, you would of had chance to read through the paper work.. and you signed for the loan and the insurance...
well i dont know if anyone has ever had a courior round there house, but this is how it went.. open the door,, courior asks for ID.. then open the letter, courior points at the line to sign and then the courior is on his way... thats how it went with me..
the woman at the halifax said i signed the paperwork.. what do i do?
If you haven't got copies of the documents you need i.e. the agreement, get the ball rolling with an SAR (subject access request). This will cost £10. Let me know if you need the address for HBOS. I strongly suggest starting a reclaim (use template letters on this site). Did you apply for the loan online or in the branch?MSE - The Stig0 -

I sent my first letter to B/Card asking for a full refund of PPI payments since taking out their credit card in 2003 to which I had a Final Response letter yesterday saying that it was my responsibility to check at the time of signing. I can't remember anything about PPI at the time - it was 5yrs ago and I was young and naive. It's only since looking on this website I've realised I didn't need PPI and have since cancelled my payments in May this year.
I sent an e-mail to the FOS this morning asking for advice - just waiting on a reply now.
I just wondered if anyone has any information on reclaiming PPI from Barclaycard and if it's worth pursuing my case even though I took out PPI in 2003?
I would be grateful for any feedback.
Many thanks

I have been following recent information in the media and on your website regarding PPI on loans. I have a small loan with HSBC with PPI, but am self-employed so am now taking steps to a) cancel my PPI and b) enquire about a refund. As I have a business account with HSBC, maybe I do not qualify for a refund but at the very least I would like to cancel the PPI. I remember distinctly taking out the loan, question marks over the PPI at the time, I knew that I could always cover the loan somehow and paying PPI didn't seem right for my situation, but I followed the advice of my HSBC advisor and took it out anyway. Silly.
I have just called HSBC explained why I was calling, i.e. to speak to someone about my loan and to cancel my PPI. I asked the man on the phone if he knew about the recent media attention on PPI, he said yes, that he would put me through to someone who could speak to me about cancelling my insurance and then, of course, my money would be refunded, could I hold? Excellent, it all seemed too easy. After 8 minutes he came back and said he couldn't put me through to anyone I would have to ring 0845 7606060, HSBC Business Banking. Hmmm?
Called HSBC Business Banking. Explained again to another guy why I was calling, he put me on hold for around 10 minutes before coming back and telling me the department had closed down. Pardon, I asked, what department? He said the 'Business Loan Protection' department had closed down. I didn't quite understand what he was telling me, but he was so definite. I asked when, how, why? He didn't know. How could a HSBC employee not realise an entire department had closed down until trying to get through to it, am I missing something? And how could it have taken almost 10 minutes for him to find this out?? So, I said, HSBC has no 'Business Loan Protection' department, the entire department has closed down? And, I said, you didn't know until you tried calling them?? Yes, he said, I would need to go into the branch where I took out the loan.
Has anyone else had an experience such as this? Could this be described as 'ring fencing' i.e. everyone huddling together and keeping schtum in light of recent media attention??
Hi. Use the www.saynoto0870.com site to get geographical numbers that won't cost you loads of £'s to call. In any event, it appears that you'll have to write to HSBC (recorded delivery) if you want to start a reclaim. The whole thing does seem very mysterious - did aliens come and take away the whole Business Banking section at HSBC?! :rotfl:MSE - The Stig0 -
right i phone my welcome branch today and he basically told me it was my fault that ppi was added because i never read the contract properly.also he told me that i have to prove that i have my own ppi cover or they will cancel my agreement is this correct? also im thinking of using a no win no fee company to get my ppi back whats your opinion on this
