    Hi
Not sure if my question may already have been answered. If so, my apologies.

My mortgage is with Abbey National and we have payment protection with them. We have had our mortgage since 1998. We were told that we had to have this insurance to have the mortgage. We also had to have life assurance (I think thats what it is), to cover the payments if one of us died. We changed this one, but still currently pay Payment Protection to Abbey. Am I able to claim some of this back? or as I changed the other one, would they think that I now realise I can shop around and therefore it is too late to claim against them?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there hun.
I think the same would go for mortgages, you should have that option of having your own or with the mortgage provider.

You could still try to pursue on this, write to them and give it a go, I think the template would be that of the PPI with loans etc, just change your letter a bit, from loan to mortgage if you know what I mean.;)

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

Maybe worth you checking this out (link above), template on that link, maybe someone will come along and suggest another way to go about this.

I wish you luck, please let us know how you get on, and if you require any further info.
    Cheers

    Hi all

So I've seen the questionnaire Abbey has sent me (I posted a few days ago saying that's what they planned to do). I've seen a few people saying these shouldn't be filled in, so this is the first paragraph of my response. What do you think?

Thank you for your letter dated October 14 regarding my policy (no. xxxxxxxx). I have enclosed the questionnaire uncompleted as you would already have this information had the Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) been sold to me correctly. I fail to see how completing a questionnaire with questions you should have already asked is ‘very important’ when assessing my complaint, as you did not view it as such when adding the cost of the insurance to my personal loan.

Abbey's also asked me to enclose any loan documentation, so this is my response to that:

'I have also, as requested, enclosed my loan documentation, highlighting areas which indicate the PPI is compulsory. You will also notice there is no information to inform me that I was able to arrange my own protection.'

I've basically highlighted (with a flourescent pen) statements such as ' to go ahead with the loan, tick the box indicating you wish to purchace PPI...' and 'total you MUST pay for PPI' on the loan agreement. Before I pop it in the post box, do you think this is ok?

    Cheers,

    Ali

Well done, great letter, and I must agree, besides they still have to deal with your complaint anyway, questionaire filled or not.:D

Please let us know the outcome of this hun thanks. ;)

    All the best.

Yeah but was it added to your loan or the mortgage as a lump sum and then you pay this back over the term. If this is just a payments protection that you can cancel at any time and was not by way of a loan then was it income protection? We pay income protection on our mortgage and this is to protect our payments if we became unemployed or made redundant and also in death. Its payable monthly and also it is cancellable. You don't get anything back at cancellation but there is no interest to pay either??

    Thanks Di and Marshallka!

The questionnaire is ridiculous. It asked me my marital status at the time (which they should know), my occupation, salary and outgoings at the time (which they should definitely know), whether I had children then, if I had shares or any other loans... Then it went on to ask what the 'sales adviser' asked in my interview. I had no adviser and no interview - and if I didn't, then I'm pretty sure no-one else did! It actually made me quite angry, hence the strongly-worded letter!
