Maxdp, I was just saying. I think the next biggie will be arrangement fees with mortgages. I think they are extortionate.

Alistair Darling, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has issued a stark warning to banks and lenders – to reduce extortionate arrangement fees on mortgage loans and stop ripping consumers off. This comes after a recent report that lenders have been hiking up arrangement fees on mortgages, and that some have even doubled over the past year or two, with others being hiked up more recently.

This was the 7th August, 2008. When will something be done? I don't want to pay this and then them do something about it and lose out or have to go through a claim with the FOS to get them back.

I would be surprised if anything was done cause they have to get their money back somehow. They are already putting interest rates up on overdrafts and credit card charges etc etc they get their money back any way they can. It does not matter how much we claim back it is like pi..ing in the wind to these large banks they will get us all in the end:eek:

Are you on about arrangement fee here or the exit fees?? Exit fees you were allowed to challenge some time ago. I tried also for £250 with Abbey but failed. They are complete and utter barstewards aren't they. In fact no-one will be able to own anything at all in this country soon.

This is the exit fees thread here but like I say this is actually arrangement fees now and this as yet has not been an issue. Mark my words this will become one. They are charging £5K now to do it and its extortionate. Watch this space. Martin will be on to it...
