I must applaud Argos on their handling of this one. It is the best service I have had from an unhonoured misprice.

The sent me the email explaining exactly what had happened and followed this up with a letter which I received today.

Fair enough they took the fiver from my account, however this is just part of the automated system they work to.

This by far beats the companies who completely ignore you or pretend that stock no longer exists .

So I for one will continue to give my custom to Argos

Interesting article here, but I should warn you that it is quite lengthy:

as yet i havent heard one single argument that justifies the removal of money from my credit card by homebase for a product that they have no intention of delivering to me....

to say its an automated system is isnt good enough ....
at this moment in time i am left owing my credit card money ...simple as that ..

forget about what homebase/argos may do in the future ..I am left out of pocket and that is simply wrong ....and the fact that they are now going to reimburse what they have taken ..big deal i say thats really good of them to give me my money back ......

the mistake was thiers not mine

In the first emails we received from Argos/Homebase, they stated that this was only an acknowledgement of receipt of the order and that it would be passed to their team to be processed. After "processing", money was then taken from our credit cards. There is obviously human intervention in the process and I fail to see how anyone can claim it is an automated system.

Secondly I would ask Argos to immediately return my £125.91. As I am sure you can understand this is a large amount of money for a student to spend, especially in return for no goods whatsoever.

bottem line is, if you cant afford to take the risk...dont.
i wish these stupid students would stop whinging about how poor they are.If it came off, thats an entire 7.5t truck of your own.Having worked for a living i know this.
where would you put them...in your bedsit or flat?Round at mummys no doubt.

they might be able to explain the big bang, but they have no savy to understand the logistics of it all.

you'll get your money when everyone else does.
for me i dont care when as long as i get it.CC company wont bill me for another 50 odd days.

never realised that buying from a top UK retailer involved taking a risk, the consumer isn't at fault for their incompetance, so why should any of us have money taken from us for goods they don't intend to supply? and why should anyone have to pay any credit card company a penny of interest because Argos don't honour their contracts?

It is about time there was clear legisaltion for online shopping like there is for high street shopping. Everybody knows where they stand in a shop if something is mispriced, on the net nobody has a clue.

As for students, many are more switched on than people give them credit for! These days students have to cope with fees and loans. How many older people are in several grand of debt to the government before they even start work?!?! I agree some courses are useless but most provide the services and industries this country rely on! I wouldn't like to see what state the country would be in in 20 years if we had no lawyers, doctors, scientists etc By the way, students will work for a living, just take 3 or 4 years when they make earning their living harder!

Oh well, I think i've given up all hope  . Still I decided I may as well send Argos a decent email back and see what they say. I expect they will tell me where to get off! ;) Anyway it read as follows:

    To Whom It May Concern,

Thanks for your email to let me know of your mistake. However I understand your terms and conditions state that you would give me the option of cancelling my order or purchasing the item's at the correct price. I was unfortunately never given an option and it almost seems that ARG only respect their T&C's when it suits them best.

Secondly I would ask Argos to immediately return my £125.91. As I am sure you can understand this is a large amount of money for a student to spend, especially in return for no goods whatsoever. I have therefore been in communication with the National Union of Students (NUS) as to the legality of debiting my money when ARG had no intention of ever supplying the product. They have put me in touch with their contract law solicitor who has provided me with legal help (and will continue to do so) free of charge.

I would presume that ARG are going to offer me some sort of goodwill gesture to apoligise for the inconvenience that I have been caused. This only seems morally right considering the situation that has arisen through no fault of my own.

    Yours Sincerely,

You don't actually think i contacted the NUS or a solicitor! Do You? ;)

Is it "morally right" for somebody who spots a clear, obvious, highly publicised and highly discussed misprice, to try and take advantage by ordering hundreds of the units.

Is it "morally right" for somebody to lie ?

Is it " morally right " for somebody to make threats based upon lies ?

Is it " morally right " for somebody to make threats based upon lies with the intention of recieving compensation, when they "tried it on" in the first place.

If MSEers behave without " morals ", why should there be double standards in demanding that these "Big Companies" behave with them.

Do they teach " morals " to students these days ?

It is CRYSTAL CLEAR what the " risk " was here.

People know exactly what the " risk " was.

Of course there was never any " risk " of any MSEer being out of pocket. Just out of luck.

Funny how MSEers swing from savage hard nosed singlemidedness to complete naiveity and hurt, depending on which foot the boot is on.
