divadee wrote:someone said earlier how they made an error like this anyway. the true price of the tv is £349.99 so how did they get 0.49 out of that
I could understand if the price mistake was £49.99 (which would of still been a bargain) but for the programmer to get it all completely wrong is just stupid. Either it was his last day, or he had just been sacked!!! If not he might be now!!
If you look at the numbers on the right hand side of the keyboard, the 3 is directly above the . sign
I think it must have been a slip of the hand.
They would of typed £ then missed the 3 and put . and then 49
Hence £.49 which would have come out as £0.49
The 99p would have automatically been deleted because of the two decimal places being used by the 49p.
Well thats my theory anyway!
Great bargain if it comes off though0 -
I need a articulated lorry for my order
only kidding

well ordered last night have recieved my confirmation and the money has been deducted from my account......I doubt we will recieve anything so would anyone be willing to fight for these tellys as earlier in this thread someone said by law they should honour this and there terms and conditions don't enter into it.....any lawyers out there who want to take on homebase :-) raise your hands.....<sits back and watches my old expensive telly>:A0

Grey area of the law. There is no adequate legislation to cover it yet. Prices displayed on the high street are binding at the point of sale but the automated advertising and ordering on the web isn't.
Its really down to how the company words its acceptance e-mails and processes the payment. This will determine if it covers itself for mistakes.
Argos refused to honour orders for a Sony TV in 1999 worth £300 it had mis-priced on the web at £3. However, Kodak honoured orders for a £329 camera set it had advertised at £100 a few years later, in order to preserve its image.
A case over a car park ticket machine a while back resulted in the court judging that the acceptance of a car into a car park by an automatic barrier constituted accceptance of the sale by the seller. So perhaps a court could say that a software program accepting web-based bids constitutes the same. However, the terms and conditions written on the Homebase website would allow it to get out of the contract were it to notice the error - as I'm sure they will with one million order placed in a day!0 -
