If you like curry then you can use them a kilo at a time making Curry Queen's basic curry sauce and freeze it in portions.

Onions usually store well if kept cool and dark. I've done better than the times given in the link below:-

    Food storage.

    Hi redballoon,

This older thread has lots of ideas of what to do with onions: too many onions

  • Make a big batch of onion soup, slice a couple of pounds of onions, or however many you can cook till your eyes feel like they've been squirted with cs!! Cook on low heat with teaspoon each of oil and butter, then sprinkle couple of tablespoons of sugar on. Cook on low heat till all caramelised, hmm. At this stage you can either stop cooking, these are the best burger onions, or add water til pan is just over half full, whack in a coupl of stock cubes leave to reduce down on a low heat. Onion soup probably isn't going to be number one wanted dish in this heat, but its so tasy, especially with some home made crusty bread. Might be an idea to have a box of matches handy after eating soup- the after odour can linger for a while...

    4 onions
    40g butter
    gladd white wine
1.5 litres stock (vegetable or chicken)

Peel & halve the onions, then put them in a roasting tin with the butter & salt/pepper. Roast at 200 degrees for about 40 minutes until tender and golden brown, turning once or twice. Cut the onions into thick segments, and put in a saucepan with the wine, and bring to the boil, then add the stock. Simmer for about 20 minutes, and serve with french bread and cheese. If you want to push the boat out, toast slices of the bread, then top with cheese; float the bread on the soup then grill 'til the cheese melts. Yummy!
I wish I could take the credit for this, but it's from Nigel Slater's kitchen diaries. I can vouch for the results though - it's gorgeous and easy!

  • Cottage pie with onions is nice, simply add the onions once the mince has cooked and continue cooking until the onions are soft.

Liver and onions (i don't like this myself but it can be done)

    Add onions to spaghetti bolognaises

Thats all that comes to mind atm x

I'd chop them and freeze them in usable amounts, usually do when I buy large batches of onions if they are about to turn. They store pretty well with skin on in a cloth/net bag somewhere cool like a garage, I've had a bag in mine I am still using from since before Christmas.

French onion soup is nice, lots of recipes on google.
One day I might be more organised...........
