  • i find agency work to be the best..if you live in leeds, liverpool or manchester I can suggests Gilds. otherwise, she can look into local pubs, cafes, bookshops etc..Even stacking shelves at Tesco. Thats how the CEO of Tesco started out, stacking shelves during university!

    hope that helps

One thing that I've found is that shops are more likely to take students if they can do something in addition to Saturdays, i.e. evenings or Sundays.

Don't mean to sound rude but why are you the one looking? If she wants a job she should be able to find one herself.

However, if she likes football, why not get one at local footy ground on matchdays? The majority of matches are on Sats, saying that the season is almost over.

Unfortunatly, she doesn't sound like she's making it easy on herself.

I haven't had a job that doesn't require at least two shifts a week - Usually a weekday and a weekend.

It isn't that she is unable to work on Sundays, but she is unwilling due to other commitments. I feel that if she wants a job that desperatly, she may need to be a little more flexible and something may have to go somewhere along the line. Otherwise, she may have to try and make do with what she's got, or make money by herself (odd jobs, babysitting etc)

  • where are you looking? some places who only want saturday staff/casual workers will not pay to advertise in papers etc, they just stick a notice in their window. Thats how I got a job in a shoe shop, worked there all through A levels & uni.

Also look out for places having refits/management takeovers, they often take on new staff, I got a couple of pub jobs that way.

  • also, don't rule out friday evenings, most uni courses finish early on a friday. I finished about 3.30 (well that was the time the bus went so thats the time I left ;)) got home by 4.30 then worked 5pm - 8pm in the shoe shop, and 9pm - chucking out time in the pub.

Could she work during the week in the evening instead?

How about looking at jobs offered at the Uni? Or doi casual work like doing tours at the Uni for prospective students?

Could she work on a saturday in the area of the Uni? I know you say she comes home at weekends but if she really needs a job perhaps thats what she needs to do & then come home saturday night for football on sunday.

Well done to her playing at a professional level, but if she really is unable to get a job on a saturday or do the things suggested above and really does not want to give up the football (& I udnerstand why she wouldn't). She may just have to be very frugal with her spending...

    Hi

My daughter works Sundays only at Woolworths, as she too has other commitments in the evenings and, in her case, on a Saturday. They seemed pretty amenable to a short contract unlike some of the supermarkets who prefer a minimum 12 hours a week. She is contracted for 4 hours a week but can work longer or extra during the holidays or Bank Holiday etc if she wishes.
