ChrissyG you are begining to sound like Conn

If you say have NEVER exceeded a speed limit in your life, then you are either a liar, an extremely slow driver,or you have amazing powers of concentration and observation.

YES some people do drive too fast, but not EVERYONE with points on their licence is as guilty as you are making out.
take a good look at yourself and honestly admit that you may just once or twice have made a tiny mistake and exceeded a limit just a bit, but luckily you for you no one was watching

my milage doesnt matter i drive on the same roads with the same cameras as everyone else !i drive approx 5 mph UNDER the relevant speed ,if thats too slow for you TOUGH your impatients and lack of planning [not leaving enough time to get from a to b] is your down fall not mine .i can say hand on heart i NEVER speed ! can you say the same? how many points do you have ?

^^^ That is extremely selfish of you. 5mph under the speed limit is criminal imo.

there's no need to drive 5mph *UNDER* the limit. I suspect in a driving test you would fail for not making progress. They expect you to get up to speed where you can.

If your speedo says you are driving 5mph under the limit, you are probably actually driving about 8mph under the limit (depends on speed limit). In doing that, you are not driving to the road conditions and are creating an un-necessary hazard and are as bad as a speeder. Yesterday I saw someone in a Fiesta doing 40mph on the motorway - they were an danger to themselves and other road users.

If the OP was being 'done' for 40 in a 30, their speedo probably said they were doing about 43mph, so the OP was quite unobservant!!

Speed limits could quite easily be lowered outside schools without the need for any more signs. In Canada, the presence of a 'School' sign automatically means the speed limit between the school signs is 20mph wherever you are and whatever the speed limit of theat road is in general.

I have 6 points on my licence, for 2 speeding fines both from the same camera within a week.. both my fault I WAS exceeding the limit.

I drive aprox 2000 miles a month and have had an unblemished record for 27 years.

I dont say I never broke a traffic law in all those years.
I believe I drive sensibly consideratly and safely.
I got caught because I was speeding and unlucky.

At least I can admit I am human.

If you are driving the way you say you are then you ARE in other peoples way and will cause frustration and silly overtaking.
Just saying TOUGH shows your attitude to other road users.

In an ideal world everyone would drive SAFELY, not too slow, not too fast.

Please dont think you are a better driver than EVERYONE else just because you never use top gear.

Your mileage IS important.if you only potter to the post office twice a week your unlikely to come across as many cameras as a high mileage driver.

So how many is it?? roughly??

!im the one with the clean licence ! the op seems to be taking responability for his/her actions maybe you should try it for a change, there are too many posts on here bleating about being caught breaking the law ! well done to the police as far as im concerned ,it is YOUR choice to speed no one makes you put your foot down.

  • Most people have that attitude and think they are capable of determining 'the condiitions'

Unlike 'most people' I have taken advanced driving lessons and read a great deal on the subject. I have also worked on 26 F1 Grands Prix, 10 years of British Superbikes, BTCC, F3, GT Cars, Carts, so I think I have a good perspective on things.

Your attitude sounds very childish. I bet you flash your headlamps and shake your fist when people overtake you.

That habit is certainly on the increase! I was under the impression overtaking when its safe to do so was still legal?

No - if their speedo says they are driving 5 mph under the limit they are probably only a 2-3 mph under the limit because the speedo over reads - not under reads.

And whether you agree with them or not - and some I believe are cash cows and I do speed sometimes - speed limits are supposed to be maximum limits so driving 2 or 3 mph under is not dangerous. Frustrating for some, but not dangerous.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Only if you don't exceed the speed limit of course.
