  • I'm an overseas student in UK.
signed up with PBD for a vodafone contract.
now I really feel I can't pay the rents if I don't receive cash-backs or support.

my contract goes from 01-Aug-07 to 01-Aug-08.
and I have residence permit till 01-Feb-08 (i.e. I have to leave country by Feb/08).
was really relying on these cashbacks to pay for the remainder of the contract... :(

do you think vodafone would let me break out of the contract after Feb/08 ?
technically, I could empty my bank account, leave and not care... but I don't want to get arrested if I travel back to the UK in the future.
don't want to end-up with a criminal record either.

    any advice would be appreciated.

I know in some of the previous posts that it has been suggested to check that you have a proper contract with the air time company. Can somebody out their give me a little advice on my situation.

I purchased from PBD a phone on vodaphone, (my husband had already bought one months earlier) When my order was process, and I received the phone, thought everything was ok. My husband then received his mobile bill and for some reason my phone, purchased in my name was added to his account. I spoke to both PBD, Dextra and Vodaphone and they all passed the book as to who had changed the name on the account.

What I want to know is as i orderd the phone in my name and Vodaphone have the phone in my husbands name. have they breached a contract or is there even a contract in place?

    Gratefull of any advice.

In the grand scheme of things, VOD wouldn't chase an overseas absconder I wouldn't have thought. The cost of them trying to do this (i.e. locate you) would instantly make it economically unviable. Remember they're a massive company and chasing what to the most highly capitalised company in the UK is a very small drop in a very large ocean, I suspect you'd get away with it.
That said, your choice of course. I'm not condoning fraud here!
    Friendly greeting!

    Hi,

It does seem like something was a amiss with this and a mistake has been made. Have you tried going back to the place where the contract was originally taken out at all? They would be the best people to put it back right for you through the original contracts channels.

If they offer no help you could contact us directly and we'll have a look into the account to see if it can be changed or transferred for you. Let us know which one you decide to go along with , if you get no joy with them, we can help you instead. Try them first as they st it up for you.

    Hopefullyuseful1,

Are you helping out victims of the phonebox direct closure?

ie Phonebox customers who are left stuck with contracts with voda without the possibility of getting their cashback?

(The voda customer you have suggested you will help get his contract transferred really wants it making null and void!)

At the time, I did contact both PBD, Dextra and Vodaphone and PBD confirm the order was in my name and Dextra and Vodaphone wouln't admit which one of them was responsible for changing the order and adding to my husbands account.

From my point of view I took the contact out.
My husband only took one contract on his phone]
Meaning the second phone I purchased has a none existant contract so therefore as no contact in place I could cancel it before the term is up.

This was the point I am trying to make, as it was purchased on a 12 month free line rental agreement from a company that has now gone bust I am obvioulsy not going to get any cash back.
I either want to cancel contract or get a reduction in line rental.
I have spoken to vodaphone to reduce the line rental and I got a firm no.

I just wonder what CAB or trading standards would say with regards to the contract?
  • I am just wondering about this in administration of Phonebox direct. Does anyone know:
Is it not the case that Phonebox direct was part of the Caudwell group or something? Did Caudwell not sell out sometime in August of this year and did they then not split up the company? I thought initially Phoneboxdirect was part of Phones4you shops? Could there be fraud involved, basically selling off the good parts into one company and the loss making parts to another so that the loss maker can go bust without affecting the profit making parts? And we are all duped?? I am not sure about this but it is probably worth looking into and forming a group to fight against it. Perhaps there is someone in this forum that is more knowledgable than me. Love to hear from you guys.
    Thanks for,listening

this is fraud. your husband needs to contact vodafone and ask why there is a second line on his account that he neither ordered nor signed for and have it removed from his account.
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
  • Hi Melhas,

If you get back in touch with us using our Vodafone online contact us form here, we can then take a look at the account. I would advise that the person who's name the account is in sends us the e-mail as we can only deal with the account holder for security and data protection. If they include the code FIT135 somewhere in the body of the e-mail, this will come to us here in the forum team and we can look into this and try to get it all transferred for you or at least point you in the direction of the people here who can.

I don't think the blame is the real issue here, we need to correct something that was incorrectly set up in the first place. It's difficult to say who caused the error as normally a company will act upon the instructions of the agent who sets up the original deal for the customer at the time.

Let's get this sorted for you soon and corrected.
