  • I cancelled my subscription last October before the 2 month free trial period elapsed. Not heard a peep until the end of March when I get constant emails saying my account is in arrears. I email them back 4 times (no response). I then phone them stating that I thought that the account had been closed. They then state that I have an outstanding DVD! They cannot tell me why I have not heard from them since December given that they concede I had cancelled the account. They then become increasingly abusive (I have learnt to hold my tongue, as anger sent back reaps no rewards) and they hang up on me. I phone back and get the "Customer Care Manager" (I had to laugh), who states that Tyrone had been frustrated with me because I wasn't listening, and that was why he was abusive - well that's alright then. I also get told that I am now being referred to an agency for the recovery of the debt.

    Avoid like the plague....

Unfortunately I have signed up for a 2 month free trial with Outnow, so far I have had no dvds, the 1st 2 that were sent out never arrived so I reported them lost in post, they said they would send 2 more from my list and send a lost in post claim form. Neither of which I have received. I have emailed them this morning saying how disappointed I am in their service and they sent me this ridiculous email back:

    "Thank you for your email.

We have been trying to contact you in regards to your account as a matter of urgency. We have been in contact with your local Police station and need to speak to you ASAP.

We have been trying to contact you on (my mobile no.).

Please contact us ASAP on 0800 652 8433"

I am wary to cancel the account as I have heard people have been changed when doing so, so I have removed all dvds from my list so they can send me anymore discs that will "get lost in the post". Can anyone advise what I should do? Have the feeling they will try and charge me for these "lost" discs...

If you've never received the DVD's then the liability and blame falls firmly on them. They have to produce proof of postage and will need to make a claim through Royal Mail for any compensation. I suspect that unless they've sent the items on an insured delivery that also requires a signature, ie, Special or Recorded (which they wouldn't normally) then they wouldn't be covered anyway.

If you have legal cover on your home insurance then you should be able to get free legal advice and assistance should it come to that.

We had exactly the same problem - returned the dvds then tried to cancel. We were unable to cancel on the website so wrote to them via recorded delivery - no reply. I phoned but was told that I couldn't cancel over phone or by writing. I paid them for about 4 months while I tried to sort it out, then cancelled the dd. I kept replying to their emails asking for payment and wrote again.

Access to the account on the web was cancelled by MyMovieStream (our log-in details stopped working and we had no reply to our requests for a new password/username).

We are now being chased by CARRS debt collectors and have explained out situation to them. CARRS are going back to MyMovieStream and will let us know the outcome of their discussions.

We 'owe' MMS approx 90 in unpaid monthly fees, but are being chased for 210 as MMS now say that they did not receive our original dvds back.

Having read your thread, I'm now going to contact our local trading standards office and hope they will be able to help.

To be honest, I'm willing to go to court over this - I'm so cross about it.

Hi Miggie - hope you don't mind me contacting you about this - I know it was posted over a year ago, but I'm now in the same situation and wondered what happened in the end with CARS? I'm determined not to pay them and refuse to be bullied into pay the £80 odd that they say I owe them, which I don't.

Would be really interested in hearing if you managed to resolve it or ended up paying it?

Thanks so much for your time,
    Amy.

    Hi Amy,

I have posted on another thread that I think, this week, MMS/Outnow/The Sun Movie Club/Whatever The Hell else It Is Called may well have ceased trading. Emails bounced, phones disconnected and website down.

    Hi Hefferlump,

Really?! Best news ive had about them in a long time. Got a knock on the door today and thought - omg.....but maybe I won't have to worry anymore! I'll update on here if I do hear anything else from them for everyones info though.

They'll probably come back within a few weeks trading as something different. Bunch of evil money grabbers!

Thanks hefferlump for the update :T

My advice is to completely ignore them, nothing they are doing is legal and no judge in the World will listen to them.

Let CARS know your intention is to NOT pay and instead, will await the Court date, only if a judge says so, will you pay anything. (this WONT happen)

Damn, thats a shame. I cant believe they are still trading actually.....I havent heard anything for about 2/3 weeks since ringing them up and saying (to a very un-interested telephonist) that i'm not going to pay as i'm not liable. But i'm sure i'll hear from them again soon
