Windsor woman did look like she was about to punch Ms Beeny when they got the valuations!

The valuations on Windsor were filmed September last year, the Southampton house I didn't see the date but it looked later - was frosty.

What a shame the Southampton house was so ugly. It seemed so futile. If they had knocked the house down they would haved saved ALL of the VAT on the materials. On a house that big it would have made a massive difference - and someone with the tiniest ounce of creativity could have come up with something better.

To be fair, it was no more tasteless than the other houses Sarah showed them. It was as ugly as sin and indeed does look like a care home. Inside was nice but there's no way on earth I'd want my name put to that :o

The saddo I am, I recongnised the Windsor house from rightmove immediately. I saw first on rightmove about 2 months ago, it was under offer a few weeks later then came back on and is now under offer once again.

Absolutely correct Doozer. Like Beanbag said, it looked like a care home.
Anyone else think that the ceilings were too low in that house?

I like the scale of improvments over there ... sea wall, boat ..should also be a parking space for boing747 at the back of the house ...

presenter could be better though, they ruined the whole idea of property ladder ..

If you do up an existing property, you pay VAT on everything.

If you do a new build and keep all the VAT receipts you can put in a VAT reclaim. I believe you can make only one VAT reclaim so you do it all at the end (will stand corrected if wrong on this detail).

As VAT is 17.5% it's a significant amount.

The motorhome was a great idea- not! Beeny was well pleased with herself.

For seven grand you could get a static caravan twice the size, for as long as you need it, including delivery anywhere in the country, and transport when you want rid of it too.
I never understood why the original PP didn't have a mobile home on the corner of the plot from day 1.

You can pick up a 2nd hand one for £1-2k. Have it low-loaded over. Run in some sewage and water. Bob's your uncle.

It's certainly what I'd do even if it was a struggle to fit it. But they had loads of land. What I'd actually do is lay a concrete base on day one of owning the land, put in the sewage and water and electricity. Then stick the caravan there. When the build's finished, I'd remove the caravan and put in a tasteful garden/spa room/space, or present it as an option.

    win:win

The large 1950s house was so nasty. The ceilings looked too low, and that living room was huge. Much too big, how would you ever feel comfortable curling up on a sofa with a book? And imagine the heating bills!

The oak staircase and gallery landing was lovely, though.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I couldn't see that it was lovely.
When I saw it I thought somebody was going to say something. On my TV it looked like it crowded the entrance hallway - and it looked like two different shades of wood.

In fact to me it looked like they'd used normal wood and it wasn't finished yet. Then the presenter said it was oak!

OK, I'll put my hands up. I have no taste. I've also never been inside a posh house. And when I say "posh" I mean I've not yet even been inside a house as posh as one that an amateur landlord has just tarted up with a £6k budget on TV property !!!!!!.

I do lead a simple life. Somewhere back in the 80s I think for quality/style and expectations :)

I didn't think it looked lovely either. I thought the stairs looked out of place and the rest of the hall looked too symmetrical and characterless. I remember seeing on Selling Houses where the presenter said when selling a house you keep all the doors closed so the viewers want to open the doors to see what's on the other side. Well looking at that hallway I would have just wanted to walk back out the front door.
