Terrible time at Tescos last night! Found some Lamb chops on pack £9.97/kg on shelf £9.49/kg. They were a pack of 4 Loin Chops, beside the packs of 2 Loin Chops. The shelf price said '4 Lamb Chops' and above it many many packs of 4 Loin Chops - there was definitely no other label stating '4 Loin Chops' and definitely no other packs of 4 Lamb Chops.
Got charged @ £9.97/kg and went straight to CS desk. The assistant went and checked then came back and told me that the sign referred to ordinary Lamb Chops and not Loin Chops. She was so nice and I was so embarresed that I simply smiled, said thanks and left! I am such a chicken!! :o

I had a thought today.....I wonder if Tescos is deliberately having mispriced goods in order to get more people through the door. I for one never usually shopped in Tescos, but for the last two months (since the beef offer and mispriced threads) I have done all my shopping there. Wonder if all this publicity has resulted in more profits for them, even though they are giving stuff away.

That is why I now always go with them in case they try and argue the toss. If they're recalcitrant and you can't be bothered arguing with them, just ask for a refund without keeping the product, at least you're not out of pocket that way.
  • I was going to post the same as Breynia. Just got my first free corn fed chicken today. Surely if this is mispriced in all their stores you would think that their head office would fax all stores on a regular basis to avoid having to refund and replace, or maybe it is more cost effective for them just to advertise items as 50p off per kilo with a bright yellow shelf tag, but then don't reduce the price on the pack. Very naughty !!

Noticed in another Tesco's today that they had removed the shelf labels from the finest cheese(with cheeries etc) but obvioulsy it's still priced at £9.99 a kilo...naughty Tesco's

All the stores round here have had 9.99 per kg shelf labels for the past week, so the 9.96 are old ones?

Got free steak and organic brie today. Even more impressed that my food club 200 points of £8 spend on beef could be used, and I then got the £8 back from the steak. £8 of deals as CS didn't know how to remove points, so let me keep them.

Its best to go with the CS Staff, as a few have been making the shelf labels vanish

If you do see an error check the barcodes to make sure its referring to the correct product - first 6 digits on product & halfway after the slash on the shelf label

I pointed this out to a CS lady the other week who was saying my Gammon Joint was different to the one of the shelf label, but she said 'yes, but the numbers after that are different', which you can't really argue with! I just came up with 'I think the rest of the digits refer to the price', which she couldn't argue with :D

Anyone know what the rest of the digits are really for though, in case they should try this again?

I used to work at tesco when I was 16. One day when I was bored at the checkout and couldn't be bothered to revise for my exams (the old fruit codes on the front of the old till drawers used to be a great size for revision cards...anyway) I worked out that on the fresh prepacked stuff the last digits bar one on the barcode are the price you will pay for the product. The last digit is randomly generated. The first 6 digits are the code for the type of product you're buying. Never worked out what the digits between the item code and price code bit were...

Have just checked my steak and the same still appears to be true.
