I think what Colin (correct me if wrong please) is trying to get across here is the barcode is of no consequence to the customer therefore the customer cannot be expected to use it as a method by which to distinquish products from one another and thus the arguement used is bogus and more importantly the person posing the excuse KNOWS this and is only using it as a means of avoiding the policy and in doing so is actually committing an offence!

I'm guessing that the Scissors Sisters one I saw yesterday (only one left) was probably scanning ar £9.77 instead of the shelf-edge price of £5.97 too, but I couldn't check, as the security tag was over the barcode. They're marked up on the shelf at £9.77 today. Ho hum.

Nope, checked SS album yesterday £5.97 scanned, as was Natasha Bedingfield £4.97. However, although I could see the entire barcode, the plastic casing meant I couldn't use the self scan price checker.

Got the checkout guy to do it instead, and then asked him to void off when I saw the prices...anyone got a different solution to price check the items in plastic casings pre checkout?

Not a foolproof solution as such, but the clue to the 2 mispriced CDs I got was that in the chart section, they have posters showing the CDs and what position they are in the chart. If the correct price is anything other than £9.77, it says so next to the title. The 2 CDs I picked up were less than £9.77 on the shelf but didn't have anything different marked on the chart, so I tried the pricechecker, which only worked on 1 of them, as the barcode wasn't obscured by the casing. Took a chance on the other which thankfully paid off!
  • exactly, cheers for the simpler explanation

Another super day at Mr T's today, mainly salmon, but a little organic cheese. It is unbelieveable that a whole shelf can be mispriced not just a single product but 6 products in a line, all but one (the other product had no shelf sticker). As you can imagine I gleefully helped them rectify this error by relieving them of some stock. CS nice lady for once (wondered if she used to work in Asda), could hardly believe her eyes when I showed her the shelf, I'll give you the refund and then someones up for the high jump. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Does anyone have any idea of how long this policy is going to continue ? I have just bought a freezer 1 week ago after my Freezer compartment on my fridge (4 cuft) couldn't handle anymore, now that's full to the brim with steak, salmon, duck, chicken, etc, only a small 4cuft one though. Thinking that I need to buy another freezer if it continues.

Wish they'd misprice 1 tin of value beans and 1 value bread roll only, I'm fed up with steak, chicken, smoked salmon, duck, gammon, cheese, etc.................. ONLY JOKING. ;););)

By jove I think he's got it!
You can use one off of any voucher at Tesco's as long as they sell the item.
You don't have to buy it!
It is meant to be at the managers discretion but I have never had a voucher refused!

  • My nearest Tesco doesn't have a Customer Services desk/kiosk let alone a notice re the refund and replace policy plus no toilets, baby changing - awful place. You have to try and find a supervisor if you want to return something. Consequently haven't taken advantage of any mis-prices. HOWEVER - JOY! A New Tesco Extra opens on the 19th - five mins drive from my kid's school. I can't wait! Looking forward to first interaction with CS!

To add to the above about barcodes:

Tesco like most uk retailers use EAN 13 type bar codes which are just a bar representation on a 13 figure code. The code number will be printed underneath it and the lables are produced either by the operators in store or the packer of the goods at the source of manufacture. Therefore barcodes attached to items in store are just a representaion of a pricing label and if incorrect are the responcibility of Tesco's themselves.

If you have trouble with the staff - COMPLAIN IN WRITING TO THE MANAGER and copy in head-office.

    Hope this helps.

Chorley manager tried the "it's not the right barcode for this product so you can't have a refund" to which I replied " show me the product to which it does refer" he then backed down.
