I think it's under the refund policy, on the same notice. In my local tesco, they also have this policies notice at the tills, on the side facing the conveyor belt. It's certainly on the website, so as far as I'm concerned that alone makes it national policy.0 -
No meat or cheese today, music scanned correctly too!!!!
did notice though that some cd shelf prices now have a price per disc on them,I went through the whole lot to make sure but to no avail,OOOooppps sorry local store Kings Lynn HardwickTuck Fescos0 -
Meh, is all i can say...
I purchased 3 x Beef Rump steak, pack price £10.49 a kg, shelf price £9.49. Went to CS, lady went away for about 15mins, came back and said its a different barcode. Nothing she can do about it, blatent lie as most of the packs and shelf barcodes don't match.
Same with the cheese, around 40packs on the shelf all @ £4.96 on the shelf, pack price £4.99, so i took 3 of these again, wrong barcode.
So i just got a refund for the cheese and beef, and bought them from asda.
So i've taken there names and i shall get on the phone to headoffice about this, any idea's on what to say to them?0 -
How are you suppose to know it's the wrong bar code?
Myself I only look at prices and don't carry a bar code reader around with me.
I would ask them to show me the right bar code,0 -
Its best to go with the CS Staff, as a few have been making the shelf labels vanish
If you do see an error check the barcodes to make sure its referring to the correct product - first 6 digits on product & halfway after the slash on the shelf label

it also does not matter for the customer what the barcode states as this is for the retailer, as long as the description on the product and the label show it is the same product then you are right. We had one try this last week, and when I stood my ground and explained that barcodes change depending on promotional packs etc, and that I used to work in the EPOS dept for another retailer she backed down. Customers are not expected to follow this.0

To add to the above about barcodes:
Tesco like most uk retailers use EAN 13 type bar codes which are just a bar representation on a 13 figure code. The code number will be printed underneath it and the lables are produced either by the operators in store or the packer of the goods at the source of manufacture. Therefore barcodes attached to items in store are just a representaion of a pricing label and if incorrect are the responcibility of Tesco's themselves.
If you have trouble with the staff - COMPLAIN IN WRITING TO THE MANAGER and copy in head-office.
Hope this helps.Watch out for Freddie the Fox at the Shay !!0 -
Then you should know working in a EPOS Dept that some products are different prices according to the difference in size or weight.
The barcode label only to refers to the product with the corresponding barcode.0 -
Next time they try this one on you just agree with them!
"Oh yes your right now I can see the difference that barcode is for an acer laptop! I'll have one of those instead" see how quick she disagrees with that then challenge her to prove the difference have a bit of fun with her before she gives you your refund :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
yes I know that the barcodes are different, the variable weight ones usually start with 02 (you can usually see the price in the last digits before the check digit) - this does not matter to the customer, it is the retailers info only, therefore she was being fobbed off. Barcodes starting 50- denote british products etc
The barcode represents for the EPOS system the product pack size (ie beef in gravy 114g, OR Tesco prime steak 800-1.2kg for example - it is merely the way they use it in their system for stock control and accounting purposes.
An easy example is a special offer of 50p off per kg -you will find that thsi has a different barcode so that the stores can see what is being sold - but will not delete the old barcode as after the promo it will probably be used again for packaging the meat. This is of no relevance to the customer if they have left the old price label up, We are not expected to check barcodes no's, date promos end etc.0
