Tesco online shopping

Okay so my question is the following:

I've noticed a lot of people here seem to shop online and have their orders delivered. The delivery cost for Tesco is between £4-6.

Is this not considered expensive? I understand most of you do it for the convenience of it, but do any of you find you actually save money doing it this way?

Please don't get me wrong, I am not criticising the way you shop, I genuinely want to know because I would love to have my shopping delivered to my doorstep! :D

I find I spend less than I would in-store and use money off codes when they are avaliable which brings down the total even more. It also saves me money on petrol too.

I have recently started getting my shopping delivered from tesco. For me the £4ish it costs is only what I would probably spend in petrol as my nearest main food shop is around 20 miles away.
Also if you pop down to 'grabbit' there is a tesco codes thread and I haven't yet done a shop without at leat a £5 code off so that at least cancels out the delivery.
We were also in a terrible habit of going on a saturday lunchtime so £10 on top of our shopping for a bit of lunch. I love getting my shopping delivered in the evening, the kids are in bed and OH at work and is so nice to get a knock at the door and peacefully put away the shopping without it being nabbed and eaten first!! Also its cheaper the later you get it delivered (£3.99 on a mon evening 9-11pm).
Maybe not so OS but I would willingly pay £5 just not to have to step foot in tesco again even if I lived next door to one!!

I find that by doing the shop online I'm able to go back through my order and get rid of the stuff I don't really need, If I'm shopping in the supermarket I dont double check I really need everything that's in my trolley before I go to pay.

And I always use the cheapest delivery (Tues evening 7-9pm £3.99) and try to use vouchers to cover the cost of delivery aswell. And as others have said it saves the cost of petrol.

  • My Tesco is just 5 mins down the road but how I hate with a vengeance having to push a wonky trolley around a store where I can never find what I want.

I try to have delivery on the cheaper times and never ever ever do an online shop without using an extra points code or a money off code.

If I dont have one (which is rare) I will go to Asda instead at a quiet time :D

I find the online grocery shop for us not only saves us money in petrol and impulse buys, but it means I have more free time, less stress, and less urge to throttle parents who let their kids run wild through the store, people who block the aisles with their trolleys, and those who simply irritate me in general in the store. I hate peak shopping times. Makes me crazy. Online shopping probably saves us £££££ in headache tablets alone!

Thanks for asking because for some reason it just prompted me to work out how much it would cost me in fuel for a round trip to MrT's and it was £4.50

There are also other MSE aspects - kids don't see junk, so they don't ask for it, and I don't feel guilty because I say no or don't (say no) and feel even worse becuase I gave in...

I tend to do my meal plan while doing the shopping and can check fridge/larder at the same time so I am not buying something just incase I don't have any left...

If there are no codes for money off on the forums here try http://www.hotukdeals.com/ and you also get £5 cashback with quidco for your 1st shop with tesco.

For some strange reason a couple of weeks ago I was driving past tesco with the kids in the back and thought "I'll just pop in and grab a few bits" by the time I got to the checkout I remembered exactly why I like .com...

I have also checked my petrol costs for going to Tesco - its only £1.80 so is less than the delivery charge but it is so worth it.

As many people have said I get the money off codes when I can (which is generally most of the time) & I save a fortune on impulse buys.

I generally do a big online shop every 4-6 weeks which has loads of tins and bottles and then I top up at local shops weekly. If I do need a bit more I pop into Asda which is much smaller than our tesco.

I do not miss supermarket shopping at all and at Xmas online shopping is a godsend.
