You can drive... although officaially you're not supposed to take hire cars on the Papagayo road (everyone does though). €3 to get the car in.

Or... drive to Los Coloradas and park up outside the shopping centre (not as "shoppy" as it sounds) and walk over the top. They're pretty well signposted, yes. Make sure you take drinks etc with you as there's only one bar there.

Trixie - I'm jealous too! Playa Blanca will always be special to me... although I'm very settled in my new home in Andalucia. Just glad it's still a big part of my life though! A gorgeous little town. I miss La Bocaina since it closed... and tapas at La Taberna... and weasel drinkies on the terrace at Princesa Yaiza... and of course the people!

Absolutely! There's a zoo and waterpark at Rancho Texas, and all manner of other goodies. Might be worth doing one of their evening trips for their Western nights - great family fun. It's on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen. Also... there are two waterparks in Playa Blanca now. There is ten pin bowling upstairs in the shopping centre behind the Marina.
You will probably find though, that he is just as happy on the beach with a bucket and spade, and a bit of a swim. Maybe get him a little snorkeling mask and take him to Papagayo to look at the fish.
    Enjoy!

We arrived home on Friday and PB did not disappoint at all, my 10yo has announced we need to move there!

Loubilaw, we had my 8 and 10 year old daughters with us (and 8 month old son!) we went to Rancho Texas and they had a ball - we got there at 10.30 and left at 3.30 and didn't go near the water park part, only thing I would say is that there are signs saying you can only eat food purchased on site. We also went to Timanfaya National Park, they were fascinated by the volcano BBQ and the displays, 10yo loved the bus trip, 8yo fell asleep (she always sleeps on buses!)

Just a wee warning though (just in general, not specific to PB!) We arrived at airport to be told out flight times had changed and the plane had already left, they claimed to have sent an email but we didn't receive one. When we queried it we were basically told it is our own responsibility to check flight times 72hrs prior to departure. We did manage to rebook flights on Monday morning but we lost 2 full days and it was an extra expense. Please check your flight times before you go.

It's always great to hear that people enjoyed Playa Blanca. So sorry to hear about your flights though! xx
