Hi Jacqu79.
The Volcan is lovely - and in a great position. Honestly... recommendations won't really matter where you are - you have a plethora of fab places in the Marina which is on your doorstep - or in just a 20 minute walk along the prom, you'll find yourself in the town centre too. There's only one place in the Marina that I would never eat at again and that is Il Commendatore (Italian). Others seem to rate it though. My favourite is La Taberna in the Marina... but for tapas rather than for main meals. Stick to Spanish dishes though. Just as English folk on the whole can't replicate super Indian curries, these guys struggle with English dishes.
Without repeating ourselves, most of Playa Blanca is covered in this thread... so have a good read and then pop back with any more questions. The fact that you have a hire car is great though - loads to see and explore. Must visits are:
- Timanfaya National park. Just past Yaiza and turn left
- Cesar Manrique's house. Tahiche
- Jameos del Agua. North of Lanzarote
- Cactus gardens (even if you don't "do" gardening). Tahiche
Have a great time!

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply Elle. I've read the whole thread through (phew! lol) and it's made me even more excited.:j
The only questions I can think of at the moment are how do food and drink prices compare to the UK and would you recommend changing our money before we go or doing it when we get there?
Thanks again!xxx0 -
You're very welcome.
Food and drink similar to the UK. Steak and chips in a seafront restaurant around €10 - 15 euros depending on place. Marina a little pricier... but it's such a pretty location that it is still value for money. Spirits are much larger measures though - so go careful if you're having cheeky vodkas
There's a thread somewhere in this forum about which bank cards to use abroad - that's the safest and cheapest way to do it. But if you must physically change your money, then it is better value in the resort than in the Post Office in the UK for example. Just make sure you count what you are given properly. We were never ripped off in eight years (mind you they knew we lived there and residents are sometimes treated differently to visitors) but others have been. As with anywhere - don't have large sums of cash on you.

Thanks, I'll have a look for the thread you mentioned.
Looking forward to eating at the marina in the evenings, just been looking at photos online and whipping myself into a frenzy of excitement haha!
Thanks again Elle!xxx0 -

I know, I can't wait! 6 weeks on Wednesday and we'll be there.:D
We all love Italian food, so hoping to check out any local Italian restaurants. My son and OH will no doubt also be on the look out for somewhere that does good burgers (I'm not a fan though!)
Can you recommend anywhere?x0 -
Jacqu79, for Italian food the best place is Casale Franco by a mile. The food is absolutely wonderful as is the service. Don't be put off by its location (it's above Burger King in CC Papagayo) it is well worth a visit. It also has a fabulous outdoor terrace with panoramic views of the seafront and across to Fuertaventura. Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0

Thanks Derwent, I'll add that to my notes!0 -
Yup Casale Franco has a great reputation and of course the views are amazing up there. It opened around the time we left Lanzarote... so I haven't tried it personally.
I love Fabio's place just underneath and behind Burger King - The Italian Job. The mussels, and the seafood pizza are excellent. His canneloni is super too.
I also love L'Artista for the atmosphere - it's on the seafront prom, one row back, behind the Galeria Bar. Try to get a table on the terrace if you can. Their vegetarian pastas are fabulous - creamy and cheesy.
For burgers... hmmm... I can't help you with that one I'm afraid, as I'm not a fan of burgers really. Maybe someone else can help with a recommendation?
