Hi checked I the post office insurance site as I have been sent out a house content insurance quote and I think I'll take it but as far as I can make out the £50 cashback offer is only if you take out buildings insurance(which I don't need) as well as contents insurance, does anyone know if this is right?

homersimpson wrote:i just read martin's article on household insurance- basically says don't pay by monthly installments because company lends you money and you pay interest. is this true?
if you have opted to pay by monthly installments should you ring up insurer and tell them you want to pay all of it. should they offer you discount? can you insist on it? do you have any redress if company did not tell you they are lending you money and paying interest.

I suggest you don't have Barclays as they have put mine up by almost £40 with out a claim making it £181-64 for a oap, robbing co0

I actually think that I Love Martin, he rocks... I followed his cutting the cost of home insurance link - and I have saved heaps!
Barclays home insurance renewal: £718.97 (sucks!)
Tried CIS (as I used to be insured with them): £637.61
Put my info into insuresupermarket.. also called these companies to double check on bits:
post office: £419 after £50 cash back (but not enough cover on outbuildings)
Halifax: £299!! Plus interest free monthly payments.. thats is a saving of £419.97 off of my renewal quote - Hurray!! And its better cover for me than Barclays..
Very Happy :T0 -
Ps. Barclays had raised my insurance renewal price by £268.69! from £450.28 last year to £718.97 this. No claims - no change in circumstances, weird! see post above0

Mother got her renewal through the post today for £110.15 (contents only), I thought what are the chances of beating that price. So I spent a few minutes reading all the information here. A few quotes later I get a price for £94.01 for the same policy, same company and same benefits. Oh for got to mention we also get £35 cash back via quidco.
Dont accept your renewal without checking around, also worth doing a new quote with your current company.
Ps - Mother was with AA and has just taken a new policy with them :money:If I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0
