Hi all
my contents and buildings up for renewal
any of you know if I can separate them and get from 2 different companies thereby giving me double payback on quidco?
Anyone actually managed to do it?
Comments / thoughts appreciated

I'm afraid I haven't read this whole thread but have just used Martin's step by step guide to change my house insurance - and one thing which would be really useful to add would be a section on cashback via Quidco etc.
Using the methods in Martin's step-by-step guide I managed to cut my renewal quote from £228 to £185, however as an afterthought I thought I'd look on Quidco to see which insurers offered cashback, and I managed to get an excellent deal from Direct Line whereby my renewal quote was £214.20 and I am also getting £75 cash back so that now makes a mind-bendingly low £139.20 for a year's contents and building insurance!
Mind you, Barclays offer £125 quidco cashback but their quote was £150 more than Direct line and not as good, so don't always go for the most cashback!

Yes you can separate -though check the prices. I did last year to take advantage of Barclays prce match and £50 back (on contents) and took my buildings elsewhere as it was much cheaper at the time.
I am also starting to look into cancelling and taking out a new policy (1o months in but can cancel according to the T&Cs) - again keeping buildings and contents separate to get 2x £120 cashback from Quidco. The potential challenge is that the cashback may not track (I experienced this earlier in the year with Lloyds TSB car insurance) but the quotes are about the same anyway and I could always cancel if it does not track. Looking at Barclays, the difference between B&C together or separate is about £20/£30 on their system (once you get to the final screen, you can change the options to see what difference it makes) but with potentially £240 off the price through cashback, it could be a good deal and £200 up on the deal for the same insurance.
My worry is whether it would annoy the insurers cancelling part-way through and you could end up with no one insuring you (as they apparently share information?), but this may be unfounded.

Hi
Just put in all my details for buildings insurance rebuild value £70k and at came back at me with quote of £100ish from Lloyds TSB
I went through quidco and they repay £120
that makes me a profit of £20 with free building insurance for the year
(or am i missing something)
don't want to proceed if I'm gonna get clobbered or miss out on quidco
any advice?
thanks

I have been quoted cheaper house insurance renewal premiums through confused.com by both Budget and Bradford and Bingley. Can anyone advise me if they have used either of these companies for claims and how did they find their customer service.
Thank you.

Hi
I am livid.
Just gone to renew my building and contents insurance with the Post Office, got a good £50 cashback quote and about to take it out when I was asked if anyone living at the address had any non motoring convictions.
Sadly, I had to answer yes to this question as my son got himself into a fracar during the world cup and as a result he received community service and a £55 fine.
I was then informed my quote would have to be referred to the underwriters before proceeding. Much to my amazement, they came back to say that they were not willing to insure me!!!
I couldn't believe it, as the conviction was in no way connected to house/contents insurance and whilst I know some of you will be thinking he got what he deserved (which in fact wasn't quite the case but that's another story) how on earth is this related and can have such a damning effect on my cover???
Anyone had a similar experience and any suggestions please?
My insurance is due for renewal tomorrow.
Many thanks.

Hi Bloaty,
I'm an Insurance Underwriter and work in household insurance so I think I can shed a bit of light for you.
The likely reason for being declined for your sons conviction for household cover is due to the increased 'morale' risk and the liability cover under the policy.
Unfortunately very few companies will offer cover until the conviction is spent. Your best course of action will be to go to a local insurance broker who will search the market for you and find an insurer who will cover you.0 -
Confused.com is a nightmare site with lots of glitches. I just managed to get through by clicking on some irrelevant stuff and the offers that came back are laughable to say the least. Lots of "ask insurer" quotes which defeats the object. The link for the InsureSupermarket leads to Moneysupermarket... not exactly reassuring.....but a lot better than confused.com with prettz accurate quotes.
Try Liverpool Victoria for good quotes. I have our car insurance with them and a very good quote for home and contents insurance.0 -
I have just had renewal quote from lloydstsb for building & contents insurance for £659.62. After using confused.com I found a company called Masterquote who offerd building & contents insurance for £277.00. I know this is less than half the price and sounds great but is this company any good. This is the first time I have renewed my insurance as I only bought my home last year and just opted to use the insurance the bank offered me when I got my mortgage.GC: £400/ £00
