just got my renewal from e-sure, £240 for buildings &contents, best around after checking. Hsbc genuinely reduced this by their £60 offer so I accepted.
I asked what would happen at next renewal ,nobody could say!
Anyone got any experiences?0 -
I have just had my Direct Line renewal for house and contents and have found out that if I go on line and renew as a new customer I save £86. The direct line operator told me that it was a 'loophole' in their system. It is to encourange new customers! The operator kindly cancelled my automatic direct payment from my credit card, when the renewal was due, so I could sign up again as a new customer with exactly the same cover! Now that's what I call a saving.0

the online quote was £200 pounds cheaper from direct line and on the phone they said they don't haggle.
I to have just had my renewal with Direct Line and applied online and saved £86.00. The operator at DL said it was a 'loophole' as the site assumes you are a new customer. It is perfectly okay to do this and a new policy is being sent out to me from the online sign-up and the old renewal will just run out on the 13/10. She even cancelled my automatic credit card payment, which would have paid my renewal on the 13/10. I shall try this when my car insurance is due with DL!! regards0 -

I just went through the Confused.com routine and when the quotes came back, none of them matched the quotes I had already got online. Tesco's for instance beat Confused.com by a mile. In the process all the questionaires ask if you want accidental cover. I thought the whole point of Home insurance was for accidental cover. If not, what are we paying for?0 -
Received my renewal notice from HSBC for buildings and contents insurance at £170 (got 5 years NCB). Went via Quidco to get a quote from Barclays, using same terms like-for-like excess etc, quoted at £138. So deduct Quidco cashback (£95 which has already tracked) my annual cost comes to £43 only!!! Amazing!
Note: When filling in details on Barclays online quote, one of the first questions they ask is 'how do you pay your EXISTING premium - annually of monthly'. By selecting Annually, the quote is approx 10% less than if you select monthly.Very strange - because this question is only asking how you currently pay - you get the option to pay monthly or annually with Barclays at the end of the quote!

My credit card showed 2 transactions of £138 taken by Barclays! Phoned up CS and she said "you must have done something wrong with the online application"What??!!! What can I do wrong? Tick a box that says 'please take my payment twice'??!!!!! She put me on hold and came back few minutes later to say "don't know what happened but we will reverse one of the transactions" - without an apology as if they weren't at fault.
Anyway, rant over.0 -
We have just received a quote for buildings cover upto £300,000 but going by the survey it would not cost us this much to rebuild our house should the worst hapen.
I asked for the insurance provider to reduce this amount especiall after reading Martins article that many people are over insured.
A common mistake is to cover the house’s market value (the amount it could be sold for), meaning many people are over insured and paying way too much.
So my question is are they talking kak? can the quoted amount £300,000 be reduced?MFWB

hello everyone, we have just re-insured our property, last year we were with direct line but the new quote with them was about £40 dearer, so we looked online and used moneysupermarket.com and the best we came up with was the Post Office, it was roughly £50 cheaper than last years quote and you get £50 back if you insure with them, which I thought was a pretty good deal....or is it ?? ohh I hope so !0

Can anyone beat this? I've just had my house and contents renewal quote from Direct Line and it came in at £564. I went to Tesco and they quoted me £230!! A whopping £334 saving, it shows how much you can save by shopping around. Thanks Martin!
Direct Line advertise 50% discount on contents insurance if you buy buildings insurance, but it's new customers only. Just goes to show how much they value customer loyalty.
BTW, the Tesco insurance web site is really hard to use, they ought to re-design it, but it was well worth the effort.0
