crossleydd42 wrote:I notice that Direct Line Home Insurance currently have a good deal on home insurance - get 50% off contents insurance when you buy buildings, plus free annual European travel cover for the family, although it excludes over 64s (damn!).The offer ends 31/08/2006.
And you can get a 15% discount when you buy online AND get £30 cashback through GreasyPalm. This is a better deal than through Quidco.
Being a flat dweller, the building insurance is taken care of as part of our service charge, so this cuts me out of a lot of "discounts". However, after being given a "renewal" quote of £527 is treating your existing customers with contempt when going online again brought the price down to £360. As it was Barclays come out cheapest at £298 with interest free monthly payments.
I'm never going to be loyal to any service provider. Every time a renewal quote comes in, I'm going to search round for the best price I can get.0 -

I'm a 1st time buyer. ( I will be moving in soon)
The 1st and last time i saw my house was weeks ago.
How can I possibly accurately describes locks etc in the house?
Ideally, I'd want to have my insurance run for a month based on my guesses, then re-apply after I have fitted locks etc.
This seems like a perfectly reasonable approach.
The problem is, how do I know that an insurer who provides the quote for the house before I move in willl also provide the best quote after i move in and improve house security?
many thanks,
yogi
Just had a look at my policy terms. They give you 30 days from the start of the contract to get proper locks fitted, so you have time. Pretty sure most insurance contracts are similar. When I tried Direct Line though they said they would send someone to look at everything before the policy took full effect though.0 -
thanks folks, I'll ask them.
I think i'll need to sell my fridge to buy the locks though. You know what it's like being a 1st time buyer..everyone wants money for something :-0

Just got my Direct Line renewal in the post which was £299 for buildings contents and legal cover.
Did a bit shopping around and no-one could beat this. I then went onto the direct line website and was quoted £246 for better cover and zero voluntary excesses!!!! I'm well chuffed.
I had to call and canel my old policy and take out the new one online but it was well worth it for 50quid.
Now, what can I spend that on? hmmmmmm0 -

Renewing my quote last year, I made the mistake of saying that I see just a few people at home in my occupation as psychotherapist. At the last minute, I found myself scrabbling round for insurance to take this into account - and it cost a bomb!
Now I've tried to use confused.com etc, but they can't deal with these subtleties. Any suggestions chaps?

Tesco half price insurance
I thought I would check Tesco's half price home insurance offer but I was horrified to see their half price was £4 a month more than I am paying with my existing company. Be warned - don't be lured by deals which look too good to be true - they probably are!0 -
Just did the Tesco thing, got buildings insurance for £45.15, got a refund of £39 from egg for an unused part of last years insurance (it wasn't up for 3 months) meaning a years home insurance has cost me £6, beat that!
Tesco looked VERY cheap compared to other quotes I've got, would have been more expensive than the others if it wasn't 1/2 price though!W00t!0 -
My buildings and contents insurance is up for renewal: I paid Liverpool Victoria around £500 last year, and I was tempted to miss out Martin's Step 2 and go straight to Tesco when they quoted £343 (once I'd added all the bells and whistles). But glad I followed his advice and have now gone with Marks & Spencer at £273 - their Premier policy is very good (for me) and matches what I've just had from LV.
BTW, they offer single lump sum payment and other options including 12 monthly direct debits with no interest added.
Mike
PS Wonder if I get a free pair of knickers with that!0
