Merlin139 wrote:Have just read the weekly E-mail and saw the article on House and Buildings Insurance with Norwhich Union and I thought my insurance was due for renewal. It was at 00.01 this morning, so have been with out insurance for nearly 22 hours!
Found the renewal notice buried in the house file by my dear wife, God bless her!
I then checked out money supermarket and got loads of quotes and £53.16 off my renewal quote from Norwich Union.
Have gone ahead with it and am now insured again for another 12 months.
Lesson to be learnt! Keep notes of all important dates on the computer calender to remind me.
Thanks for all the good advice on your E-mails and site Martin.0 -
Here is a copy of an email I sent to 'Insuresupermarket:

Dear Customer Services,
After using insuresupermarket.com web site to search for home insurance companies, found disappointing inaccuracies.
After inserting all details to enable the search, I then received a list of broker/insurer links, plus a price for participating insurance companies. When following the links (from your site), found discrepancies in prices quoted by companies in question.
For example: ‘Budget’ Price quoted by your site £169.19. Price quoted from Budget web site £209.00.
I fail to see why there is a variation in price when all the relevant details given are exactly the same.
This appears to defeat the object of your web site, making it ineffectual.
Hoping you can shed some light on this rather ambiguous situation.
Regards - etc.etc.

marylee wrote:Am due to renew building and contents insurance. It's gone up by nearly £50 with Saga. Can anybody recommend a comppany, please? Thanks
I've just signed up with Saga via insuresupermarket. I had to phone Saga to clarify certain details and the quote was less than online. I have saved £90 off the quote from my broker. I have also been offered my comprehensive car insurance for £120 with them which is due in Oct. Tell Saga you're moving insurers and get them to deduct the £50 (or be cheeky and ask for a bigger discount)!
ps I used my 2% cashback card as well!0 -
I was tied into a 5 year deal with the mortgage which ended in December 2005
annual cost approx £1000
But in August 2005, I rang them up and they let me out early, by finding me a new deal
annual cost £650
The renewal has just arrived so off I go following the links on Martin's article
Result
Annual cost £370
Stunning the reduction compared to the mortgage provider0 -
Got my contents only insurance renewal from Direct line. $50000 cover for £520!!!
Tried using Confused and the other site recommended here and they came back with messages saying they couldn't quote for me!
Started going in the old fashioned way to sites and started getting quotes around the £350 mark. I even went back into Direct Line and got a quote for £340!! (This is the same thing I did last year to reduce it!)
Tried Barclays and got the same. Microsoft Internet Explorer crashed on me so I went back in and redid the quote and it came down to £300!!! Double checked to make sure it was the same level of cover and it was!!
Does make you wonder what is going on when you go to these sites!0 -
ok just done Insuremarket and got a renewal from Asda at £195.24 but the results have come up with about 15 cheaper and the cheapest £110.85 can this be right? This is only for buildings.0

i have had a nightmare time with norwich union as well
want to change all insurances with them once they have run out ie; car /buildings ect
do not want to use anything owned by them or their legal services which are a complete waste of time & money ie; capita owned by brittania
anybody know of any companies not owned by these two ?0 -

I notice that Direct Line Home Insurance currently have a good deal on home insurance - get 50% off contents insurance when you buy buildings, plus free annual European travel cover for the family, although it excludes over 64s (damn!).The offer ends 31/08/2006.
And you can get a 15% discount when you buy online AND get £30 cashback through GreasyPalm. This is a better deal than through Quidco."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
hiya,
I'm a 1st time buyer. ( I will be moving in soon)
The 1st and last time i saw my house was weeks ago.
How can I possibly accurately describes locks etc in the house?
Ideally, I'd want to have my insurance run for a month based on my guesses, then re-apply after I have fitted locks etc.
This seems like a perfectly reasonable approach.
The problem is, how do I know that an insurer who provides the quote for the house before I move in willl also provide the best quote after i move in and improve house security?
many thanks,
yogi0
