Thanks Shelly, that's really helpful.:T I noticed they had two types of cat flap on the website and when I queried the size they told me that the original catflap would easily accomodate a 5kg cat. My cat is quite a bit bigger than that so I was a bit confused.
Have you got the original cat flap or the one with 'knobs on' ???
cheers
Feebs
I'm not sure what you mean about the one with 'knobs on'. Do you mean the newer version ajb linked to?
All I can say is we have the flap that I linked to. It has a square shaped door rather than a round one.
If you need any more info let me know.

Hi everyone
I have 3 cats and I have to keep one of them in, no question about it he has a broken leg.
Am I right to assume that if I didn't scan the cat that I do not wish to allow out, only the 2 cats that I scanned would be able to use this flap?0 -

The scanner is on the outside of the door so from the inside ANY cat can leave but only your cats that are paired with the flap can enter.
It does have a 'vet mode' but that locks it totally. No cat can leave until you turn the mode off, then all cats can leave.

It seems with the new model you can have selective exit, anyone tried this?
My apologies, I should have said I have the older model
I had heard about the new model coming out with better features but as we only have one cat now we went for the older version.
I can recommend getting in touch with them through the petporte.com site with any queries you have. I had to do so once we received our flap and they were extremely helpful.
Also if your cats have been chipped for quite some time you have to make sure the flap accepts their chip number. The flap (the older version definately, not sure about new one) won't accept very old chips.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. We have now fitted our pet porte but have so far wimped out of trying it in anything other than open mode. We're going to bite the bullet today - I have 2 very nervous cats and I wonder if someone very kind could give me a step by step easy peasy guide to getting them through with as little trauma as possible. It looks fairly straightforward to get one cat through but it's the second one I'm puzzled about - do we just set the cat flap and push them both through one after the other ?
Many thanks in anticipation for any tips

Hi Feebs.
In the booklet we got with our flap it says you can program in one cat then program the next one. You have to set the flap seperately for each cat, not just push them through one after the other.
Lily is extremely nervous of anything new so when we first programmed her into the flap we had to pretty much just push her through because she wasn't going on her own.
Once she was programmed in hubby fitted it in the door and for the first few days we had to hold open the flap from the inside so she could go out and to get her back in we had to either hold open the flap again or tempt her with food.
She really hated the clunk of the catch opening and the bleep noise it makes so we turned off the bleep but could do nothing about the clunk noise so until she got used to that we had to help her and reassure her it was ok. Giving lots of praise when they use it helps too.
It took her time to get used to it but now she uses it perfectly. She even doesn't mind the bleep noise being turned on.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
When we first got our catflap, I used a piece of elastic to hold it open - tied one end round the open flap and the other end round the door handle. After a few days they realised this was now the way in and out and we removed the elastic.0

We ordered a Pet Porte from Microchip cat flaps 3 months ago and are still waiting. They aren't replying to emails. Anyone else having any trouble with this supplier?0

Yes! And I signed up to this forum to let you know about it in case you're still waiting for yours...
I ordered a Smart Flap (the new Pet Porte model) from microchipcatflaps.co.uk on the 7th Aug when their website was showing a 3-day delivery estimate. This was later changed to 14-days due to high demand.
Fair enough, I can wait... But then over a month later I still hadn't received it. Numerous e-mails were sent and several phonecalls made and on the few times I got any response I got nothing but broken promise after broken promises. I wouldn't have minded if they'd said it will be another month - at least then I would know - but it was always 'end of the week at the very latest'.
In all fairness I do genuinely believe there were delivery issues from the manufacturer that were beyond their control however it was the efforts I was having to go to to get this info and the repeated broken promises that was starting to annoy me. So, I decided to cancel the order and go elsewhere....
But oh no, James Winsoar (the MD of microchipcatflaps, although I get the impression that it is actually a one man band) wasn't going to let me go that easily! He said it was not possible to cancel. Too late apparently - you get 15 minutes after submitting the order in which to cancel.
I set him straight and advised him that if nothing else I was exercising my rights under the Distance Selling Regulations which gave me the period from order submission up to 7 days after the goods had been delivered to cancel the order and hence given he hadn't even shipped them I was well within my rights to do so.
His response was unbelievable... He said that I had waived my DSR rights during the order process! Not only was it news to me that Statutory Rights can be waived (by either party) but it was news to Consumer Direct too who I contacted for advice.
I got back to James and insisted that my order was cancelled, and I initiated a Paypal dispute too for good measure. He then gave in and refunded my payment (initially promised by cheque for some reason but later on the Paypal payment was refunded direct).
If you're still waiting for your catflap you might want to consider canceling as if this is what the service is like as a new customer I dread to think what issues you might face should you require any support further down the line!
I've now ordered from Pet Planet (as a new forum member I cannot post a link). Not only are they cheaper (£99 including shipping) but having spoken to them on the phone they seem like a very helpful bunch and some Googling reveals they are rated quite highly. I should point out I am in no way affiliated with them, other than as a customer.
Hope you get sorted either way, and well done for reading this far!
Mathew
P.S. Consumer Direct have passed my complaint regarding microchipcatflaps.co.uk's attempts to side-step the Distance Selling Regulations on to Nottingham's Trading Standards so hopefully they may be able to offer them some advice on consumer rights.0
