It depends which side of the door the door hinge is on and your plug socket is located.

If you go to http://www.microchipcatflaps.co.uk/ and click Photos you can see how some people have installed theirs and made it neat.

Also if you use the code "MSF30" you can save a massive £30! The code is valid until 6th December 2008 and only whilst stocks last. As well as that you get free delivery, a free cat behaviour book and four free mystery gifts!

These sound really good, I did think about them with Ted, but didn't want to mess up the patio doors or front door.

But looking on that website it says they can be fitted through walls.
    Anyone done this?
My DH is reasonably handy, does he just drill out loads of holes around the edge & bash it through?
What about damp & the damp course, it wouldn't interfer with that would it?

I'm thinking of one now for Molly.

Do I site it facing the back garden (& south west) or the side semi-detached (& north east).
Both sides would be in the livingroom.

I guess they must be 100% draft proof?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I had done a search for the Sureflap cat flap but nothing came up - then I saw this thread! I have been looking at a replacement flap as my cats are a nightmare when it comes to losing collars and we have had foreign cats coming into the house - not an experience to be repeated!

The Sureflap cat flap is priced at £75 which I thought was enough! Having seem this one is £127 (without the discount) I nearly choked!!!

Interesting reading about the Pet Porte, but the power cut issue will be a major problem for me even with a UPS, as we seem to have one every other week! Shame there is no battery backup.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • The Pet Porte cat flap is available from www.identichipcatflaps.co.uk for £89.99 and from www.petporte.com for £102.50.

Any new offers on this or is this the best one?

Anyone got it? How does it cope with drafts?

    Is that not many problems?

    Whats not many?

Not trying to be picky, but I don't want ANY drafts, my living room is SW & NW facing, on the corner of a semi.
The livingroom was freezing even with a massive K2 rad, so we've just had another put in & its much better, the last thing I want is to make it cold again.

THANKS for the info, really great to have first hand info.

Sorry but to fit any kind of cat flap means you will have some drafts. You simply can't have a big hole with an internal flap that moves easily and not have. That said, it may be possible to put some form of arrangement in place outside that shields the hole from prevailing winds to minimise the potential problems. Pardon me for asking but what are the dimensions of your room and what size is your 'massive' k2 rad? Are you cavity wall insulated?

    Anyone/Everyone
Anyone got any codes for deals for the Pet Porte please. If I don't get one soon I'm going to end up in court for enjoying cat abuse (i.e. our neighbours who insists on terrorising our two, eating all their food and using our gravel drive as its personal bl**dy toilet...)

BTW to protect your sanity DO NOT, under any circumstances (even a gun to your head) waste your money on Staywell rubbish. I'd personally like to shove the ones I've had where our cats can't climb - you get my drift!!!!

The room is just under 6 meters by just over 6 meters.

It has 2 smallish windows (double glazed) & a large set of french doors (also double glazed).

    2 rads now:D , much warmer.

I'm toying with where to site it now?

If I site it on the back, it will be very exposed to drafts as its just a bare run down the length of the garden & if (or when) I do my extension I will need to move it.
If I site it on the side it would be more sheltered.

Just spoke to "James", he's really helpful.
He said drafts aren't an issue & he can do a white inside flap & a brown outside one:D :D:D
He said the garden security lights coming on briefly won't make it think its daytime as it needs to be on for 10 mins.
He sais it being gloomy on the side won't be a problem with the light sensor as so long as their is a difference between night & day it will work.
  • Hi,

I have just fitted and programmed 2 cats in. It worked okay and they successfully came in and out, but last night I heard one at the cat flap. I eventually got up to find both cats outside and pusihing at the flap with their paws and head unable to get in. I have now turned it back on to open mode.

Has anyone else had cats that can't use the flap. They have been recently micro chipped and seemed to program easily.

    Thanks
