Um - I'm an old style Moneysaver. I've got an old fashioned magnet in the collar Staywell & it's served me & my 2 furbabies very well over the years. I would be reluctant to shell out the figures quoted for the chip-style one personally & I would not be prepared to have electricity running through thick walls & cement floors here in my flat. Good luck with it if you think it's necessary/suitable.

  • Having spent about 300 quid on catflaps in the last 2 years with all of them being frankly crap now I am seriously tearing my hair out. Neighbours cats are driving me and my cats mental! I have 2 unwelcome visitors who come round all day and night. I am getting up at least 3 times a night to shoo! They are spraying in the house and it stinks and one of my cats has now started pooing in the house which the vet thinks is stress related because of the visitors. He even pooed on the kitchen work top this week! Gross!! I have had an infrared staywell flap which did seem to work for a while up until a neighbours cat forced the door so hard the mechanism to keep the door shut was snapped. I have recently spent over 100 quid on an electromagnetic Cat Mate Elite which I cannot get to bloody well work for the life of me. It will randomly lock and decide not to open. The buttons on it are really hard to press and after it randomly locked the cats in resulting in yet more turd I have now just pulled the darn batteries out and am keeping it open. Of course I am now shooing cats all the time and my house stinks of !!!! so am thinking perhaps to now microchip the cats and get a chip flap. However been trying to choose between the Sureflap and the PetPorte and I'm not sure! Usually I would say "buy cheap means buy twice" but after the hoo hah with the over priced and frankly rubbish Cat Mate am no longer sure. After readinf this thread I was just about convinced to buy the PetPorte at the £89.99 advertised on http://www.identichipcatflaps.co.uk but when you go to the backet to check out the price is suddenly 97.98!!! I think I might just buy a dog instead!

oh by the way - the cat mate has a draft excluder thing on it but I am constantly removing reems of fur which has got stuck to it and looks rank! So perhaps draft excluders not a good thing?

KrazyKatLady, my local vet used to sell Sureflap but they were getting so many complaints about them falling apart that they stopped selling them and just do Pet Porte now. The vet told me that they hadn't had any complaints about Pet Porte in all the time they have been selling them.

I heard that Pet Porte were bringing out a new version which will fit into the hole previouly cut for a Staywell flap. I'm thinking of giving one a go when that comes out.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Here is a special offer for you that even beats the identichipcatflaps price.

Phone 0800 092 4880 and ask to order two PetPorte microchip cat flaps (one for you and one for a friend) and you can have them for just £97 each with free delivery (normal price £127 each) so you save £60.

    More details at http://www.MicrochipCatFlaps.co.uk/

    Offer ends 12th March 2009.

You can get them for that easily, without having to buy two.

We've got the cheapo Staywell that has the 4 position turning thing, very cheap from Argos and it's been fine for 3 years.
One of our cats is a loon and rather than just barreling through it stuntman style as Dennis (moggy no1) does, Maureen (moggy no2) bats the flap, catches it on the rebound and lifts the flap over her head to get in!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
