The length of time I have spent fighting nits I will try anything!!! Absolutely anything at all, mine is quite capable of sitting still, she's used to it after all the wet combing. As gail says, I prefer a few split ends to pouring poisonous lotions on her head.
Thanks gail, the 3 girlies in the moggins house appreciate this.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Ahhh nits, i remember the days, and the smell of the stuff we used to have to stay smothered in ll evening! If you use a product to protect hair
(styling gel thingy or oil) would the nits still get frazzled ok?oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!0 -
ewwww, stompa, just read your link!
Just think we could all be infected all the time in a few years!
Not that I want to add to any kind of scaremongering campaign you have!oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!0 -
This is more a preventive method. I swear by it as I used it when all my three were at school at they hardly ever picked up any nasties. You buy it from the chemist so I'm sure it's over there as well. In the vitamins & herbs, oils etc section. It's called sassfrassic oil (hofefully spelt right). After washing and conditioning your childs hair put a couple of drops into a jug of water and tip over there head. It repels the nits apparently. It worked for me and a bottle lasts for ages so much more econimical than haivng to buy the nit shampoo etc. The whole household used it when nits were in abundance at school.
So glad those days are over. :beer:Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Good morning all - this looks like a good time to move the thread over to the Families Board.
Don't forget that, because it will be merged with a similar thread, there will be posts BEFORE these recent ones that you will not have had chance to read yet.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. i was interested in the recommendation of Sassfrassic Oil as tea tree, mint etc haven't worked on my DD's long hair, so i Googled it, the nearest I came up with was Sassafras Oil - if it is the same thing -very alarming, shouldn't think you can buy it in Boots "it is estimated that a few drops of Sassafras oil is sufficent to KILL a toddler and as little as 1 teaspoon has proved fatal in adults"

Perhaps I''l try the straightening irons idea!
interestingly 11 year old often picks them up and I have to regularly comb/condition her hair, her 10 year old sister - regularly checked - nothing! and they live and play together - I tell DD2 she must smell funny! (I've never had them either, so I must smell funny too!)0 -
Best to get the really really hot straightners!0

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
My princess (!) (with very long hair) is prone to these. It takes me days and days and days to get rid of them. Straighteners here I come when next needed. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!0 -
Have tried practically everything with my youngest, who has very long blonde hair and is prone to them! No chemicals, no alternatives have every worked - only combing, combing and more combing.
However, there's another thread on this site recommending hair straighteners. DO READ IT. It may be the answer ?? !!
I'm definitely going for that next time my daughter needs it.
Good luck0
