For anyone experiencing the pain and annoyance of nits, who doesn't want to use all the chemicals that don't work.I would recommend a "nitty gritty comb".I got one on Ebay after putting up with a rubbish plastic one.It was about £10 which seems like a lot, but it is great quality and has a life times guarantee, and works brilliantly, especially in the bath with lots of conditioner with a few drops of tea tree oil.

Quassia chips are my solution: I used to buy them from Culpeppers but a google search should find other suppliers. Non-greasy!

Put the shampoo on dry hair and comb through. Then just add a little water and try to lather rinse and wash as normal.

We haven't had nits for a while but when we do I just use a metal comb (£3 from chemists) and wash and condition hair as normal. Then with hair soaking wet comb through. This should catch all the fully grown louses as they cannot move in wet hair. I find then using my finger nails the quickest way to remove the eggs from the scalp. Repeat daily and you should find you are clear within 2 days unless the child sitting next to your child still has them and they keep re-catching them!

  • Yes put the shampoo into the dry hair to remove the oil from the hair then rinse as normal. The recipe I use for lice treatment is tea tree oil shampoo in a cup enough for 1 large application (2 tablespoons/ ish) and 10 drops of tea tree oil essential oil (mixed together) apply to wet hair getting next to scalp, put on bath hat and leave for 10 mins, then rinse out and apply tea tree oil conditioner and comb thro' with nit comb. All lice dead and nits comb off! repeat 2 days later , and every 2 days until clear and find a light spray with tea tree oil in water deters reinfection. I just use the supermarket brand of tee tee oil shampoo etc, but I know you are not supposed to use oil undiluted on skin, but rather mixed in shampoo or other carrying oil/medium.

I think I'm crazy. The only thing I have with Tea Tree oil in is my "tea tree blemish stick", so I've just liberally dosed my head with spot cream!

Do you know if Aloe Vera would work?

I used Fairy Liquid on my daughters hair a few months back, as she had like a little bit of cradle cap and used vaseline to get that off which made her hairy really greasy.

The Fairy Liquid worked a treat, and i dont suppose it would do any harm only being used the once

I will give the fairy liquid a go and then some conditioner on top.

The oil I used was pretty pungent , it had tea tree in it and was a ready made formula. I defy anything to still be living in their hair as the smell was enough to take my breath away.
