I swear by Australian Bodycare 100% pure tea tree oil. Our school is always infested, my kids only get them if i forget the tea tree. It also clears an infestation pretty sharpish. I get three 25ml bottles for about £25 (QVC) and they last about 12 months, also good for spots and insect bites(or to prevent them).0

I read on another thread that someone was recommending a good way to get rid of lice/nits is to use straighteners on the hair. I would imagine if the child had an infestation you may need to use them perhaps over a couple of days or so to make sure you got them all? I assume that the heat from the straighteners kills them off.
I have not tried this myself as luckily (touch wood) my two seem to have nit repellant hair, but this person swears it worked for her daughter so if you have straighteners it may be worth a go.0 -
Try the Herbal product made from India Neem tree for head lice.Available from the Paydens chemist in kent.

Another thing is to leave the derbac-m for 24 hours instead of the 12 hours on the hairs to get the best results.0 -
I've recently splashed out on one of these, as I was trying to use a plastic thing, with teeth missing, which really was ridiculous.Anyway this thing is fantastic by comparison, feels like good quality and will last and catches the blighters like a dream, I'm just going to use this regulary now, with tea tree oil and conditioner and give up on all the useless carcinagenic lotions. My partner has long thick curly hair, and it manages his hair, no problem.I'd certainly recomend this product, if anyone is going through the nit nightmare! It arrived the next day also.( by the way, I'm not the seller and i don't work for the company I just rate the comb!).
For some reason I can't get the direct link to work, but just look on ebay under - nitty gritty comb.0 -
I cant remember if I posted about the Bug Busting kit. Worth taking time to look at the site and also you can get this on prescription free (Although my local boots had to order it because they didnt stock it and also my GP didnt know it was available on prescription till he checked). I used this when my Daughter had nits last time and found it to be very good.

I had them for about six months when I was 18, could not get rid of them tried every cream, lotion and one of those electronic combs. Got so fed up, in the end found the solution on the internet. aparently harvard university found the best solution was olive oil.
wash your hair as usual then rub olive oil into your hair, put a towel round your hair and leave for over an hour, then wash hair again. Do this several times a week. aparently the olive oil covers their air holes so they suffocate, you need to do this for about a month till the breeding cycle is broken.
This worked for me. took some time but have never had them since, also leave your hair in great condition0 -
I've got 2 daughters with really long hair and I had problems with them for about 3 years keep getting headlice. I tried combing with conditioner but that only gets rid of the live ones not the eggs and it was a real nightmare with my daughters really thick long hair.
Anyway, I bought a bottle of Derbac M to try. It's quite expensive (about £15 per bottle) but it did the 3 of us. You have to put it onto dry hair and then sleep in it but it smells nice and doesnt hurt your eyes. Rinse it out the next day and comb all the dead lice out. I did this with my children about a year ago and it got rid of them all straight away and they havn't had any since.
I hate all those mums you meet outside the school who swear blind their children have never had headlice. They are the biggest liars out.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I have treated both my kids with aromatherapy oil all over their head to rid them of headlice.
It has worked very well but I am having problems getting the blooming oil
out of their hair.
They have had two shampoos and still they look like they havn't washed their hair for weeks due to the grease.
Any ideas, I will have to do something today as can't send to school looking like this.0 -
I have thought about using washing up liquid or do you think that would be bad for the hair ?0
-
How about combing some talcum powder or even cornflour through to absorb the grease and then shampooing it all out?
Not tried and tested but it's the theory behind those dry shampoos you used to get.0
