  • The one from savers definitely works, its also available from Wilkinsons. Priced £1.69. After years of trying to get rid of the unwelcome visitors I tried new product, totally natural from the chemist called delacet. Smells vile but did the trick. Still clear months later. Any left in the bottle can also be used as a repellant.

As I said earler in this thread, I made my own, with a small plastic empty spray bottle from the garden centre( looks like the ones hairdressers use to damp hair), washed out (and never having had any weed stuff in it!) I just filled with some water and drops of tea tree oil , and sprayed on prior to school a gentle mist of louse repellant! Has worked so far!!
And I used to use my Quassia chips as a repellant by spraying it on before they went to school. Google for Quassia, I know I used to buy mine in Culpeppers but they DO grow out of this stage, honest!

There is something on the market called Nitty Gritty, I haven't tried the lotion as I have had no need to, thanks to their Repellent Spray, They also do a fantasic comb, which has longer teeth than usual .

If you want more information (Including stockist near you) check out their website NITTY GRITTY

Oh dear! Have you worked out where you got them from? I know kids tend to get them a little less once at secondary school because not so much sweet 'head to head' stuff: I guess we get The Letter about once a year instead of every week now. I think I've caught them from the kids sometimes, but more often it's just the pavlovian itch and scratch.

Exits left, scratching head again ...

You can buy the ‘Nitty Gritty’ comb online (£10.99 delivered)

They also have a downloadable letter that you can give to your GP to get a prescription for the comb (good if you have children or are on a low income).
I cant beleive you can get the nitty gritty comb free!! thats great(I know I've already gone on about it enough,I must of got confused and thought it was 2 threads on different occasions, or something).
I strongly urge everyone to get one, nits a bl**dy nightmare, my kids have had them so many times since starting school, I really beleive if every home had one of these combs, the problem could be almost wiped out.
  • My daughter has had nits for the second time since starting school (age 10)

Has been a bloody nightmare and after 3 weeks of initially finding them we still don't seem to be completely clear.

Im combing through lashings of tee tree conditioner every night, combing through with the nit comb and although we no longer seem to be finding any live lice, there still seems to be a lot of eggs left in her thick hair.

Admittedly they are getting fewer but it just seems to be taking forever.

Never had them... but now

I know the bugs can become resistant to the chemicals eventually so what other alternatives which other people have used work effectively. It's cost me a fortune so far on lotions/potions etc. What am I looking for, seen little black things like lentils but a lot smaller, about a dozen on us all. If you could see the state of us right now, you have have a right laugh. Would it be a good idea to leave a shower cap on the treatment as it would intensify the effect or not? We've never been affected by them until now and it sends shivers up my spine just thinking about the morning and what I'm going to have to do.

I used to be forever raking them out of my daughters hair. When I'd got rid of them they used to catch them again straight away until I used this:

That was about a year and a half ago and neither of them have had them since. It's great.
