If you have a shower do it there with loads of conditioner and they won't stick in the comb too much. You can drag them out of the comb with tissue paper.

  • My young cousin has v long naturally curly hair and my aunty gave up on the nit shampoos long ago

She puts a few drops of neat tea tree oil in regular shampoo which helps get rid and has also kept them away ;)

"Once they're on the comb, how do you get them off? I tried wiping with a tissue and that didn't work. And running them under the tap wasn't that effective either. I ended up hitting them with the other comb. Is there a better method?"

Try using the corner of a piece of paper, poke it into the groove and run it down. Always do it over an old sheet or piece of white paper so you can see them come off and squish them! :rotfl:

try dabbing the comb on some celotape, they should stick easily, and you can watch them on their long and painful journey to death....

No useful peice of information that hasnt been covered before, but i wanted to say i caught them at the January sales once. In Next it was shoulder to shoulder and hardly any room to breathe. I went on the Saturday, by the Friday i was driven to distraction by the itching. I checked the rest of the family for headlice and none of them had them, so i just had to treat myself (obviously keeping an eye on everybody elses heads too.) I wouldnt have minded, but i didnt buy anything.

  • My eldest dd (nearly 6), has had them twice.

A fellow parent recommended AVON, leave in conditioner, called Quick Touch, and after every time you wash the hair, you apply and leave in.

She's never had them since - thats nearly 2 years ago now! :j

  • remember to keep checking your hair every few days as you might have got walking ones out but left eggs behind.
eggs will hatch and you will have to start all over again.
only nit comb i have ever used on my daughter that get rid of eggs is the nitty gritty comb.its metal and sold in most chemists for 9.99.
wet combing with this comb is the best way to get rid .
then use tea tree only like a hair spray to prevent .i use this in girls hair every school day.

I usually treat my kids for headlice whilst they are in the bath.I use ordinary shampoo and add tea tree oil myself. Then put loads of conditioner with added t-tree,and comb through with nit comb, I have a jug of water beside me which I rinse the comb in to remove lice, they sink to the bottom and drown (Hoooray!!!) I keep doing this untill ther haven't been any for quite a few strokes,I repeat this every couple of days for acouple of weeks.
I hate nits and get realy pi88ed off when people seem to just give up trying to get rid of them and just infect everyone else. It's ridiculous that this problem continues, and it seem's so silly that schools no longer have nit nurse, I keep meaning to write to my MP about it , as it bothers me so much(I don't genneraly get around to things like that!) but my kids have had them every couple of months since starting school and there are only 35 in the whole school. So if only for the protection of children with such negligent parents BRING BACK THE NIT NURSE! .I think some parents are so snotty they don't even consider that their child could have nits!
I also use a spray intea tree conditioner every day before school.
