I used a Robi-comb for years with my children, and I loved it. I wouldn't use the chemical washes either, and I used it as well as wet combing and conditioner.
The beauty of the electric comb is that it's quick and effective. I used it every morning and night, and kept using it for at least three weeks at a time, and weekly after that as a precaution.
I would definitely recommend it!
Edit: dd2 had a head of wild curly hair, and I found dry-combing much better than wet-combing - her hair was long, and I always worried I might lose one while pulling the comb all the way through her hair. The signal of the electric comb took that worry away.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

My son gave them to myd aughter and it took a month to get rid of them. We went thru no end of treatments that didn't work. In the end I bought nitty gritty, comb, repellant spray and lotion. The lotion caught 2 lice that I'd missed with conditioner It cost £28 for the 3 items, but (fingers crossed) I haven't had an incident since. Wish I'd bought it first though.0

I second the nitty gritty!!!! I got one free on prescription. If you look on their website www.nittygritty.co.uk there is a letter to download to take to your doctors.
I caught nits off my daughter who'd got them at school, I have asthma and sensitive skin so can't use chemical nit lotions. Becasue the comb was prescribed for dd it was freeand it's brilliant! Even on dry hair it removes the eggs as well as the live nits.
I def recommend it! It took my doctor a little while to find it on his computer but it is definitely there for all doctors!

Be prepared for it to be a regular occurence, in my experience there seem to be children who just catch nits every other week cos there is bound to be someone in class who has them, and those that manage somehow to avoid it. One of my grandaughters would catch them all the time no matter what we treated her with and the other has only had them once or twice... not nice but a fact of modern schools unfortunately...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Nitty Gritty for me to along with Hedrin.
The Hedrin doesn't smell at all, and although it says you don't need to comb with it, I do anyway, just to be sure, and it makes the comb glide through the hair and pulls all the little beggars out! It also leaves my little princess's hair lovely, soft and shiny.
She had them about once a month in Reception and Year one - but we've not had them yet in Year two (touching wood!).0
