I got 4 bottles of Hedrin to treat the whole family with last time I went. Should have cost me £40 so it was a relief to get it! Every now and then I pop to the doctors and get an 'advance' supply in just before the warm weather hits as I know it is only a matter of time and my doctor is pretty fab about it. You don't even have to take the child in. Just book an appointment and mention 'head lice'. They want you out asap after thatBeautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110

Head lice are the bane of my life at the moment.
I usually buy the Alberto Balsam Tea tree and mint shampoo and conditioner, it's usually on offer at £1 a bottle and lasts a while.
I have a nitty gritty comb. Did read somewhere that you can get one of these on prescription, but when I asked my doctors surgery and my chemist they both denied all knowledge of it, so I couldn't be !!!!!d with the hassle and just paid the £9 and bought one from Boots.
I do treat their hair as well with Nice 'n Clear which is the stuff you leave on.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -
I found it the least mess, fuss and hassle to just buy a bottle of lavender essential oil.
Three drops of that on the crown and rubbed over and the little horrors all dash to the surface for fresh air, so are easy to comb out. And the scent keeps the stroppy madam underneath calmer whilst I did the combing, thus making it possible to comb without protest every other day.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
We used to do nitty gritty combs on emas, think they stopped because parents were throwing the combs away after they'd treated the problem and then expected another one next time round (sometimes only weeks apart).0

Not sure how you can throw the nitty gritty combs away as they are metal and so strong. The plastic ones don't last long though and the teeth break off after a while.
Where do I get lavender oil from?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -
If my kids had head lice, the last thing I would be thinking about would be saving some money by waiting for doctors appointments to get free treatment.
Sorry if that sounds unsympathetic,..... but because I don't know your financial circumstances?
Could you have paid for a treatment?0 -
I've got lavender essential oil from the chemist in the aromatherapy oils section, in health food shops, Neal Yard Remedies, Boots, the Body Shop.....I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

nitty gritty combs are the best combs for nits imo, they drag the eggs out as well as the live lice. i bought one when ds1 had his first outbreak last month and used conditioner.0
