And whilst someone use an appointment time for the sole purpose of getting free treatment, someone who really need to see a health visitor has to wait....

GlasweJen, someone would have to have an exemption to benefit from a prescription of paracetamol, there are only about 25p from tesco/sainsbury. Any GP prescribing £7 whatever a prescription now is worth would be in serious trouble!

Appointment time? Ring her up/pop into clinic - hey presto.

If your spending £50 on one child for nit treatment then maybe you ought to try another method! Any old conditioner and a nitty gritty comb works wonders and they last a hell of a lot longer than the cheap plasticy combs without pulling or tugging either ( = one happier dd :) )

another vote for comb and conditioner - am really surprised gps are prescribing insecticides due to both the cost and efficacy.

Vosene shampoo has kept my ds nit free for years

Wow - now I've read it all £40 saved from the NHS by getting "free" nit lotion ... and some advanced supplies too! No wonder they haven't got enough money to buy the latest cancer treating drugs for everyone!!!

I had completely forgotten about Vosene - I didn't even know they still made it as haven't seen it for ages! Is it still in the funny shaped green bottle?

We have just had our first letter from the school saying they have had a single case of nits and to check regularly - my girls are white blonde so not difficult to spot but we used Vosene as kids and also never had nits when they were going round, which always seemed very regular!

The nitty nurse was in quite regular too - I remember one poor girl with afro hair who used to have it all plaited up and the nit nurse used to take them all out and leave it, I can imagine now her poor mum must have been hopping when she had to put it all back up again!

Do people realise how much an appointment to the doctor cost the NHS? What a waste a NHS resources to pay for a consultation for the only purpose of getting a prescription because people are not prepared to spend £10 on a treatment for their child. I think GPs who accept to sign a prescription for it should be ashamed of themselves.

Not to forget people who have genuine medical problems, and can't get a GP appointment because of people wanting to save money on head lice treatment.
That is not what a GP is for. Disgraceful waste of their time.
