When my lads were little ones I swore by the Nitty Gritty comb and a bottle of cheap conditioner. Best remedy I ever found and one of my all time best buys.
"Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

I am having the same problem! Both my girls seem to have the bl00dy things none stop - I get them clear with the combing and conditioner method - and then next minute they have them again. Its a non-stop fight at the moment!!

Previously I have chopped their hair off to very short bob length (talking just below the ear short!) but neither wants their hair cut this time and with them being 12 and 8 now I have to listen to their opinions :(

Hi castri,

This thread is more suited to the Health and Beauty board so I've moved it over there. Can I remind all posters that we are not allowed to ask for or give medical advice or remedies in the forum (including alternative remedies).

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

Should be available on minor ailments ask your local pharmacy ;)

One product may work better than others there are a few different with different chemicals.

I swear by loads and loads of cheap conditioner and a fine comb
• Recommend Nitty Gritty lotion, but above all it's the Nitty Gritty comb you need. It has special little spirals on it which get rid of everything and is not so harsh on the hair as a normal nit comb. Good luck!

Don't really have a suggestion for you but you really have my sympathy:( dd went through this in primary school and it was very very distressing and upsetting, the only product that worked was a severe chemical based one that is now no longer sold I believe, natural stuff did nothing and doing her very long hair by hand with comb and conditioner every night was the stuff of tears and shouting:( Pulling her hair back in a severe plait and covering it with hairspray so its stiff did help a lot when it was re-occuring every day:eek: just so you know your not the only one, best of luck, hope it doesn't last too long:)
Thank you for this site Martin

you can comb and be vigilant - but if everyone in your child's class doesn't inspect and de-nit their kids then it makes it harder for everyone.

My DD's both suffered at primary school - both had long hair and I was unwilling to wash ir everyday - esp in winter - so I bought an electric nit comb - brilliant at zapping the little b*****s! Then we had a good slathering of conditioner and a comb through with an ordinary nit comb at every hair wash! And i used to put some tea tree oil into the last rinse....

hope this helps...

If you are continuously using 'the same treatment (I think you said Full Marks?) stop! When I was little the lice became resistant to the lotions, and it stopped killing them. if you are exposing eggs to the same lotion over and over, and it's not killing them they could be building resistance, and that will make it difficult for everyone who catches them from your daughters as well as you.

The tea tree in oil thing is what we used after the resistance came out, plus a Little eucalyptus oil too-it smells better that the tea tree ;)
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!
