Conditioner and nit comb every day-and I mean every day - works but I don't know how feasible that is with really long hair.

    Plenty of cheap conditioner.

    Plenty of time.

    Plenty of patience.

    Every day for a fortnight.

That's the only thing that worked to get rid completely when my daughter had them when she was younger, although sometimes it was probably me missing one or 2 and that's why they kept coming back. That's what I think people forget when they say their kids keep getting them.

A tv prog a few weeks back said that the main reason for them coming back was not enough combing. This particular child got fed up with the combing and complained so mum stopped before totally finished. As above, conditioner (loads of it) and combing.

    Have you tried Neem oil?

Yes, dead expensive and no better than tea tree oil IMO.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

DD used to get them quite a lot when she was in school i tried everything and spent loads of money. In the end i started using cheap conditioner and a comb every night for a couple of weeks till they were gone. DS had very short hair so only took a few minutes but DD and myself have long hair so that took some time. I also started sending her to school with her hair up in a high pony tail and plaited then the plait coiled up like a bun and clipped in place.

Interesting. How do you use the tea tree oil? Is it tea tree essential oil? Do you dilute it in something?

I ask because tea tree essential oil is more expensive than neem oil, volumewise.

I used to add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to cheap conditioner not sure if it did any good but to this day DD cant stand tea tree oil or anything with it in.

DD had nits constantly for about a year when she was younger, you have my sympathy, its very distressing, this is probably not a very popular suggestion but it was the only thing that worked for us, I used Prioderm in her hair overnight and then combed it through with conditioner and a nit comb in the morning and repeated this again a few days later, Prioderm is very very chemically and only available otc in a pharmacy and costs about £10 for a bottle that gives 4 applications, once the b******s were gone she wore her hair back in a tight ponytail covered with hairspray until we were sure everyone in the class and friends were clear, old habits die hard cos I still check her hair now and she's 15:o

edit - just went to do a quick search for you so I could give you a link and it looks like its been discontinued in the UK:eek:I dont have time to search anymore but heres some info so you can maybe find another product with same active ingredient - good luck:)

You need a Nitty Gritty comb and to spend ages combing through with conditioner to get EVERY single egg out.
Its because the eggs aren't totally removed that they are reoccuring. I had this with my son so you have big hugs from me. But really conditioner and a Nitty Gritty (can get it on prescription from the dr) and maybe a spray of water and tea tree or neem oil on the hair as a preventative.
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

Ugh! I know exactly how you feel! The only way i've found that works, and i've tried everything! Is combing, drown the hair in conditioner and comb all over. I got a brilliant comb, could be nitty gritty, can't remember. It was about £10  But so worth every penny! It's metal and has long teeth with threads on them kinda like a screw. It takes eggs out no problem. I comb my boys every 2 days with it. Keeps them clear. My eldest is fine now he's at high school but middle son still gets them every other week. It was constant for a while. it really gets you down, but chin up, keep at it with the combing, it's the best bet.
