Frontline works the best! Just use a reduced amount. :)

When my kids were a bit younger and prone to nits/lice etc I bought an electronic comb that 'zaps' them. You have to use it on dry hair but it doesn't hurt the child at all. After we'd done the condition and comb treatment I'd use the electronic comb weekly as it's so quick and simple to use and was a good way of keeping on top of it before any infestations took hold!
  • My Daughter is 12 and has extremely long thick hair - it really is ridiculously thick! Anyway she came home from school a few weeks ago and said that her head was itchy and when I looked she had lice. I used Full Marks solution and got rid of loads of them. Used it as directed and then used again after a week and again the week after. I comb her hair (no mean feat) every night with a nit comb, but she is still getting lice. Only one or two every time I comb through now but since the original Full Marks, I have used Derbac, Hedrin, tea tree oil, a home and Bargain remedy which I can't remember the name of and they are STILL there. I got three live lice when I did her hair just now. I clean and scald all the hairbrushes every day and boil all the bedding and towels. She won't get her hair cut and I am running out of ideas of how to eradicate them. She has never had them before. Any ideas?

Who has she been hanging around with? It might be that she's catching them off someone the next day at school or off the neighbour's kids maybe? Do you have any pets? Or if you any other kids who might have it as well?
You might have to cut her hair if they keep coming back just to be sure.

She plays with two kids in the road, but I had a word with their Mums and they said that they check their kids regularly and have had no problems lately. Only other daughter is 20 and AFAIK is okay. We all did our hair with the full marks just in case when this all first started and I have been checking my own hair regularly and is okay. I don't know about school and we have a hamster which is cleaned out regularly. She really really doesn't want to get her hair cut and I don't know if she will do it but it is costing me an absolute fortune on stuff. The only thing I haven't yet tried is Lyclear - but I don't know if that will work better than anything else has. If I have to get her hair cut how short will it have to be? - at the moment it is waist length and REALLY thick and wavy - it really is beautiful hair and I think she will be traumatised to have to have it cut.

Unless you're planning a razor cut, don't bother. Although cutting it shorter will make combing easier, it won't eradicate lice. A hair dresser once told me the best way to avoid them was to tie hair back into a ponytail, then plait the pony tail, continue to condition and comb.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

One way to stop them coming back is to use tee tree shampoo, they hate it, must be used frequently though!
