Right, everything in the pan now and cooking away, will be happy to not peel another apple for the next few years :rotfl:

If it's horrible, no harm done as the windfalls were a gift from a friend and all other ingredients were in the house and low cost anyway

My mother is in the midst of making a yummy Belgian loaf, an old family favourite so a slice of that with a nice coffee will go down a treat later on this evening

I also mananged to get a bottle of nice whisky reduced from £27 to £18 so that's a part Christmas present for someone all sorted

Ooh - what did you get? Love a nice drop of whisky, but it can be so expensive for something good

Hi Ed, well I say 'nice' but I'm not a whiskey drinker. It's Chivas Regal, 70cl and £27 reduced to £18.

The person it's for is a whiskey drinker, do you think I've done the right thing and got a decent price?

Not one that I've tried ATT, but it gets good reviews and has an instantly recognisable name. Probably a good thing? :)

I will need to take a look at their website and see if they have any others on offer, Mr S can be good for spirits at Christmas time.

Baking sounds lovely hope they came out nice. I have never made chutney either I don't actually like it that much but I am sure your nice homemade stuff is much nicer than the shop bought ones.

I totally agree with the large spend to get money off totally worth it and you were going to buy presents anyway weren't you.

Good news on the tax refund hope that's the end of that now and that you have online access again. I love first directs account monitor thingy.

Hi TG, in the end I didn't get the muffins done as was concentrating on the chutney but I'm delighted (and amazed) to say it was a run- way success :j

I do like chutney and usually receive a few little pots of different kinds for Christmas presents but I can honestly say the one I've made is better than some of the ones I've bought or had as gifts :D

I think I'll try the muffins at the weekend and also planning a bash at houmous and padron peppers but more of that later ;)

Hi MCI, thrilled (and a little bit proud :D) at how well the chutney came out. It's all in jars now and as would take me many a year to get through most of it is now put to one-side as gifts, not for Christmas but for some nice neighbours etc

Yes, the smell is a bit odd but it did take me right back to being a little girl. My grandmother was an amazing cook and particularly brill at baking and all kinds of preserves and jams, curds etc. It's always a regret of mine that I didn't get to learn from her how to do it but she did teach me to knit and crochet, both of which I can do reasonably well (e.g. can make some items to give to others and not be too embarrassed at my efforts, though whether I do it often is a different story ;)

What lovely memories of your grandmother. Don't regret not learning this from her, do it in her honour - I am sure she would be proud of you.

My grandmother was a great baker and our Christmas Cake is always made to her recipe - its a lovely way to remember.

Enjoy eating and giving away your chutney - got to get and make mine soon.

  • Well.. almost a month since I've updated my thread :o

To be honest the way I'm going at the moment I was thinking about starting a Savings Free Wannabe thread or board :rotfl:any takers to join me :D

Just a few quick updates for now but I've got a couple of days holiday this week so hopefully will be able to make a few more posts and catch-up on other diaries

My decorating is all finished now as well as all carpets cleaned. I've been caught up in a cleaning extravaganza, still plenty to do but most enjoyable with nothing going back unless it's scrubbed, sorted, filed, put out for charity etc

I'm intending to spend the rest of the day doing paperwork type jobs. Just finished a couple of hours work sorting family member finances out for the month so it's my turn now

I'll be making a reduced mortgage OP of £100 today in line with my recent approach of reducing them until get works in the house complete, as well as still not being able to see any of my accounts on line :eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:
