But its ok to ask for odd jobs or sell things on ebay.
I just think its a valid way to get out of debt if people need a job doing or to buy things she has to sell. Debt is depressing for anyone and I think this is an ok way to begin to tackle the problem0 -

I have looked at the website and despite getting lots of useful tips of this website previously today was the first time I registered because I felt she was getting a bit of a hard time. She does say that she doesn't want handouts so I think people who are trying to get out of debt should be encouraged.
It think I just get a different message from her website.0 -
I just think it's unfortunate that she has chosen to say that she won't be using her salary as it does appear to be much more of a publicity gimmick than a genuine attempt to get out of debt.
I appreciate that the op says that she doesn't have any excess from her current salary but part of the beauty of this site is by creating excess. The whole 'Money Diet' philosophy is about stretching your current income to make it go further.
I would recommend that you get a copy of the 'Money Diet' from the library and read through that. It will give you some great ideas.
Also for fast, free cash check out the referrers board and sign up to the different cashback sites. You will be able to earn over £100 (over the year)without spending any money using the clickthrough offers.
Maybe only a drop in the ocean, but it will make a start, if this is a genuine attempt to clear debts.

I see the good old British pastime of knocking folk is alive and well here .
Our culture seems to encourage knocking folk if they dare to do something outwith the norm. Anyone is fair game these days, whether they be rich, famous, or just average joe.
Personally, I don't give a toss whether onegirl has debt she's trying to get shot of, or whether she's at it and is trying to amass ten grand for her piggy bank.
I wont be sending her any money mind, but I admire her spirit and her gumption to do something just a little bit off the wall.
Does it really matter to any of us what her motivation is? None of us know for sure if her debt is real or imagined. If you believe her, sympathise and want to offer help whether it be financial or just email advice, then do so. If you don't believe her, don't visit her site. Simple.
There was a similar type of thing on eBay not that long ago, only the person was asking for everyone to send a pound (I think it was). I laughed at their cheek and thought good on them. It's not like they (or our OP here) is forcing anyone's arm up their back to help them, is it?Herman - MP for all!

If she was asking for money, I could understand why people are knocking her. She isn't asking anyone to send her anything - why are you all so offended? She hasn't even got any contact details other than an email address so it's not like people could slip a fiver through her door - the only way people could send her money would be through paypal or the like and there are tons of people who wouldn't use them that might send cheques or stuff.
I'd rather send onegirl advice or encouragement than money to savekaryn.com.0 -
So would I, but I can't see how she's taking the advice. Most people on here have said, right then,,, list your outgoings, we're willing to try and help you see where you're spending money where you needn't etc. It's all a bit namby pamby to me (Sorry for the made up words). I agree that refusing to 'use your salary' shows no real desire to actually get out of debt. And I hope to god the current craze for z list celebrities doesn't mean that this would somehow catch someone's eye and make a 'famous' person outof having $10k debt and not doing a huge amount about it. Only a few million others in the same boat....................0

Has anyone else noticed that the diary started and stopped on 16 August - can it be that Onegirl has given up already!! Me and my OH have a target of £31K by December 2006 - (to save not pay off) we're building a house and this is for all the fees and bits and pieces - but we're doing it the normal way - SAVE SAVE SAVE and making our salaries stretch like they've never stretched before! I read this site everyday looking for ways to save pounds off my already tight budget!
It seems to me a little like Onegirl wants an easy way out, and I get the impression she is looking for a little bit of fame - which is what she's getting on this thread! I don't think this is the site for her - this being a Money SAVING site whereas she wants to make money by weird and wonderful means - such as going on Richard & Judy! If this is a genuine cry for help then I apologise - it just seems a little weird somehow.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY
