An idea I just had was to come on here when I'm cooking something with a specific temperature. Maybe if I type temp in and search the forums I'll get a list of recipes to try?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

Hi,
I've realised that, at about 50p for an hour, I can't keep using my fan oven as I have been, leccy's gone through the roof! Paritcularly as there's only 2 of us as well. My budget won't stretch to a Remoska right now so I'm going to have to find some more imaginative ways of using my oven.
I'm thinking of doing an old-fashioned cooking / baking day each week then using the microwave / gas hob to reheat food.
I've been doubling up my use of the oven already. Yesterday instead of making 3 individual lasagnes which each need 40 minutes in the oven, I made one giant one and plan to reheat it in the microwave, this should save electric. I also made a cake at the same time (this worked well, both cook at the same temperature and need the same cooking time).
I'm out of ideas for other combinations of food that I could do, I can't keep baking a cake everytime I use the oven, my bum's starting to grow
Any ideas?

Hi smartandshrewd,
There's an earlier thread with some suggestions that might help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.
Do you have a freezer? I like to have a cooking day every couple of weeks where I make lots of different meals to maximise the oven. These threads have some ideas for savoury things that you could make and freeze to have another day as 'ready meals'.

Hi peeps I'm trying to be really good with the fuel bills ATM and while cooking tea tonight (sausage toad) I was staring at the two empty racks thinking what I could have had ready to fill up the oven space..
I try not to do this but with all the 'stuff' at home I'm finding it hard to concentrate on anything to be honest:o and need a few suggestions to get me started...
So what I would like from you lot are suggestions on an ovenful of bakes, sweet or savoury or a mix of both
For example, the sausage toad takes roughly 40 mins...so in that cooking time I could also have baked a batch of rolls (12) some fairy cakes and some brownies!! *kicking myself now...*
Has anyone got any ideas to help out my mushybrain please0 -
No ideas off the top of my head but this is a fabulous idea for a thread. I have often thought the same thing and some fresh ideas would be great. My main problem is that everything I like seems to need to be cooked at different temperatures.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Hi DD&D  Take a look at this older thread - what can I cook in the oven whilst..... I plan my "oven days" so that I make a pie, a couple of cakes, a batch of biscuits, and a batch of buns, whilst I have the oven on. That saves the wasted gas that is lost heating up and cooling down the oven. When DH does the Sunday roast, I usually slap in a pudding and a cake then, too
I'll add this thread to that one later. No ideas off the top of my head but this is a fabulous idea for a thread. I have often thought the same thing and some fresh ideas would be great. My main problem is that everything I like seems to need to be cooked at different temperatures.
I put the things that need the higher temperature at the top of the oven, and those that need cooler lower down. This won't work with a fan oven though

Most things are more tolerant of oven temperature than you would imagine. Also, I don't think that most fan ovens are the same temperature throughout, at least, none of the ones I have had have been,.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
