What else can I cook in the oven whilst....

I have a slow cooking casserole in there? seems a waste of electricity to have oven on for 2 1/2 to 3 hours with an empty shelf.

I have searched my 'getting smaller as I get older' brain :o and drawn a blank.
Any ideas welcome:D

I cook baked potatoes usually and then freeze them if we're not using them straight away, then defrost-microwave when needed. Bread rolls usually aswell.
One day I might be more organised...........

Some cakes need to be cooked slowly at low temperatures, for example pineapple upside down cake. I also try to use all the space in the cooker, it does make significant savings. Many things can be frozen for use later.

However, it might be worth finding a slow cooker for making casserole, if it's something you make often. They use much less electric than a cooker, so have the potential to save even more energy without you having to make other dishes to fill the cooker.

I love pineapple upside down cake, haven't made that for years!

Slow cooker...I wondered if I should get one. Didn't know they used less energy. Off to find slow cooker recipe threads..

Get yourself comfortable - I'd recommend a nice cup of tea and some chocci biccies - you'll be there a loooong (but very enjoyable) time!

PS I keep meaning to make Twink's hobnobs too, will get on it tomorrow! (Except I'll have to think of a main course to join it in the oven, mmmm best get onto cooking thread!)
  • I will second the twinks hobnobs suggestion!!! I now have regular orders from DD and work for them so, moral is, you can never make too many!!!

Do the hobnobs and then some Baked Potatoes for another night.
