I tried to use the coupon for the For goodness shakes milkshake that I got for a free bottle,I was buying the product.Assistant called the supervisor who said they would'nt take it as it did'nt have an expiry date on it.I said I had used one before in that store and they said that the coupon policy was changing even with coupons for items that you bought the product.Tesco won't be getting my custom if this is the case.I only ever use coupons if I buy the product and the amount of times I've been made to feel like a criminal.
  • I think that it will vary from store to store, sorry if yours doesnt accept coupons :(

No change at my local. It's the only reason I shop there anyway!

I wish the OP had named the thread "My local Tesco no longer.." as this is very misleading.

    Thank you for your email.

I appreciate your query with regards to money off coupons. I have detailed below
some information on the acceptance of coupons in our stores which I hope will
    help you.

All Tesco specific coupons display the Tesco logo. We'll only accept these at
the till if you buy the product shown on the coupon at the time.

We're happy to accept a non-Tesco product coupon even if you don't buy the item.
But, the coupon must be in date and the store must sell the product. If you
present more than one identical coupon you need to purchase the same number of
products. This also includes coupons printed from the Internet, but these will
only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.

I hope this has helped to explain things for you. Thank you for taking the time
    to contact us.

yeah thats the standard e mail but if they're changing the policy in may I'd advise everyone to use their coupons. if you have a lot, buy none perishable stuff you can store like bags of pasta, jars of sauces, tinned stuff, frozen stuff, washing powder etc. I've just been and used £12 worth in mine. But their policy (that store only) actually changed last may and I had to shop further afield to use coupons. That was due to coupon policy abuse. I have always known it is only a metter of time before they DO stop acceopting coupons. It is widely known that they do and I am surprised the manufacturers who produce the coupons havent kicked up a stink before now tbh. All good things come to an end. Make the most of it while you can!

I simply cannot believe that you all have strict coupon policys. I think thst using coupons, when you buy the product is a RIGHT, but when you get money-off for productd you do not purchase in your transaction, is a BONUS.

I think Tesco may be getting rid of it's coupon policy because people are abusing it. Like...

~putting blanks in the self scan machines
    ~using store specific coupon
    ~using coupons tesco cant redeem
    ~expired coupons
    ~defaced coupons
    ~invalid coupons
    ~photocopied coupons

I agree. Been saying this for months. It's called shooting oneself in the foot. A number of us have said this about the £4 daily mail token.

What are manufacturers going to do, threaten not to let Tesco stock their products if they keep taking coupons when you haven't bought the product?

I don't know how many people actually use coupons when they haven't purchased the product, but i think that overall Tesco will sell far more units of the product than they will receive coupons for.

I would only use coupons for the item/store that it is supposed to be for as anything else is fraud. It would never cross my mind to use a coupon for something I didn't buy.
