See todays Hotmail home page re 'Coupons on your Mobile phone' and redemption at the supermarket.

Also worthy of note please be aware there is a new 2D (2 dimentional) barcode antisipated for coupons.
These 2D barcodes contain 14million million combinations and will include the expiry dates encrypted.

Can anyone please tel me if you can definetely use mocs on self service without buying the product? Last time when i was using the 75% coupons i scanned one by accident and it bleeped and said you have not bought this product? Is it store dependant? thanks x

It bleeped because the 75% off coupons were Tesco-issued (with the Tesco logo on). The tills (manned and SS) were all pre-set with that barcode to match the product (as most Tesco logo coupons are). Any cashier would have got the same message you did.

But yes, you can use normal manufacturers' coupons at SS without buying the product (like the £1.95 Spectator coupon in today's Telegraph - see the newspaper thread for today).

BUT I don't use SS as you can use more MOCS at the normal tills. SS are always pre-set to beep for authorisation at a certain coupon-level (differs between stores) and you may only be allowed to use one coupon at SS. At a normal till you should be able to use one of each coupon, to any amount, getting your shopping for pennies (if your store knows the policy and is OK with it and if you choose a young cashier, not a moany older jobsworth).

    Go for it! :T

As long as you stick by the rules of one of each coupon if you don't buy the product, you should be fine in most Tesco - but still try to always avoid confrontation by only going to a young smiley person's till, if you don't want hassle!

Today I got over £30 for under 20p in cash, all with in-date, redeemable & different coupons (mostly internet prints as already posted on the printable coupons thread). That is how I normally shop, it just means I have to visit Tesco every other day to stock up on stuff more regularly than others might do. The store I visit are fine with it, I have discussed coupons with Managers and CS staff there before to make sure they were going to be OK, & they are.

I am trying to teach a couple of friends what to do re coupons, but am a bit wary. Last time I taught someone 'the basics' she went and used Somerfield magazine coupons there 'because they scan' - even though I had specifically explained these are not on! I felt a bit responsible as she was like a kid in a sweet shop, all good sense seemed to go out of the window once she understood the 99 barcode concept.

Ive just been told by 2 of my local Tesco's that they no longer accept the £4 DM coupon!!

Also one of the stores only accepts 1 coupon per transaction....how stupid is that???

Im on a really tight budget at the mo, would it be poss to start a thread outlining which stores do and dont accept the DM coupons?
