I'm so sorry to hear of your loss :(

I have two dogs and dreading the day I will lose one of them. One of them is a collie and he's my best friend and very loyal so one day I know it's going to hit me like a train.

It's amazing how much they affect our lives isn't it but it sounds as if you both had a great time together and you can take great comfort that you provided a loving home to her and that she wanted for nothing. So many dogs dont even get to feel what it's like to be loved and cared for so it sounds like she was one of the lucky ones ;)

Have you thought of putting together a memory box? You can include favourite photos, toys, collar - anything which reminded you of her. I keep everything of Jake's because one day I'll want to remember everything about him. My eyes are filling up now just thinking about losing my dog so I cant even begin to imagine how you're feeling.

I hope the pain starts to ease soon and I'm sure that one day you can give all your love to another doggie :smileyhea . Your girl would want that. She's probably up there having a lovely time with all her old friends. She wouldn't want you to be sad for her. She's in a safe place.

I am so sorry you have lost your dog. I know what that feels like. I am worried as to when our dog is going to go.

But as you said, you gave her a good home and loved her and sounds like you were very lucky to have such a wonderfull dog!

    (Hug)!

I'm sorry to hear this, I know when our animals die they leave a huge hole in our hearts :( Do grieve for her, and take time for yourself. I love the idea of a memory box, I had to have my horse put down early last year and still haven't got over it so I think I'll try that too.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, and understand what you're going through. Our eldest cat, Treacle, died very suddenly in the early hours of yesterday morning. Although he was almost 19 he wasn't ill, apart from a touch of arthritis, and he was his usual self until moments before he died. I think that in time I will be comforted by the fact that he died so quickly without suffering, but right now I'm struggling to cope with the shock of how sudden it was.

I'm missing him terribly. We've had him since birth and actually saw him come into the world. Our other cats were very subdued yesterday so I'm sure that they're missing him too.

There's so much I want to say, but I'm a soggy mess typing this so I'd better finish here.

    Thanks for "listening".

I am so sorry to hear that... I know what it feels like to lose a pet, it is horrible.

I have a dog and she is getting old and I dread the idea of her not being here :(

My thoughts are with you *hugs* :A

Hi, i'm so sorry to hear this & feel for you. They really are a part of the family, people think i'm weird as I don't view animals as less important, just their spirit went to an animals body, to me we're equal. One day you'll remember her & have only good memories. I too feel the memory box is a great idea.

Oh god im crying and im in work. I hope you find comfort in your happy memories. I cant imagine being without my dogs. Ive come close to loosing my dog before (he was poisoned) and it broke my heart. You could always consider having something done with your dogs ashes. Ive seen jewellery made and paintings and drawings done using some of the ash although its not to everyones liking. I hope you get through this. Look after yourself :)

:-( Really really sorry for this rotten time in your life. But it is so rotten because dogs bring us such happiness. I feel that because a dog gives such unconditional love and relies on you for everything, losing them can sometimes seem harder than even losing a family member. I know that is likely to be quite a contraversial comment for some readers, but to some of us, dogs are our world, and to them, we are theirs.

Eventhough it probably feels unthinkable, disloyal etc at the moment, to consider getting another dog... I have always found this to be the best medicine. Not to replace but delight in. Every dog brings so many different characters, quirks, lovable personalities. They provide and keep alive the lovely memories of your last friend. I just always believe that if you are the sort of special person that a dog can get so attached to, then there are planty of little dogs in the world that would love to be given just even a tiny bit of that specialness.

Do your greiving, but do it with happiness knowing you were the best mum your dog feels they could have ever had!

Wow! Thankyou all so much for your support. I haven't been on here for a few days and i am amazed at all the replies.

It's a week ago today that Molly died. What an emotional rollercoaster we've all been on. At first i couldn't be in the house by myself, it felt horrible. Knowing she should be there with me. I said to hubby, when the kids are at school and he's at work - she was always here with me. Even in the evenings when kids and hubby were in bed(he goes to bed early as he's out by 4 am) Molly was by my side.
I couldn't face moving her beds so they stayed where they were until Saturday. Then i asked hubby if he would move them. I feel very disloyal moving them BUT it was doing my head in seeing her bits and her not being there. (IYKWIM)
I have put Molly's collar and ball in our bedroom. With her other toys we are making a memory box to keep downstairs so the children can look in whenever they want.

I have read the poems now-they are beautiful. (yes i did cry)

As for Molly, i know i was blessed to have such a wonderful dog/friend.
I was only just pregnant with my son when we got her.
She was from a friends dog's litter, and when the dog was expecting they knew i wanted one if there was a black and tan !!!!! (previous litters had produced only Blue's). When the litter was born, there was only 2 girls. Molly was the only black and tan, the other girl was blue, all the others were blue boys. We were stroking the litter and as i stroked the puppies, a black pup moved, it kind of snuggled it's way to my fingers (this was before i knew who was who). My friend said "your girl has just chosen you". So she chose me and we'd been together every since.

    Sorry if i've rambled on a bit :o .

Thank you all again for your support.

  • they leave such a big hole don't they!, I lost my beloved Jack Russell Teddie a year ago, it took me months to get over it. Honestly i think there are some people I would miss less than that dog!
I spent ages doing a photo book via Kodak website and added quotes and said what was special about her.
you never think you could love another dog the same but that dog-shaped hole needs filling desperately and we got another JR (Max) last september, as soon as I thought I could bear it, and it was the best thing I could have done. He has helped me get over losing Teddie (even though he could never take her place).
My favourite and most tear producing quote (keep it for later) is this:

"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill

sorry - its just made me cry again!

As a dog lover - your loss is my loss- take care
