My dog has died.

Oh squibbs, it has to be one of the worst feelings in the world.

I know there's nothing any of us can say, but we all know what you are going though.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I just wanted to offer you my condolences(sp) we had to have our dog put down when he was 12 as he was so ill and it was like losing a brother. Only people who have loved and lost a dog can understand the pain it causes. Hugs to all of your family.

im so sorry to hear about your doggie it made me cry and im 21!! i have a dog she's had cancer hopefully she's over it now we're not sure but i dread the day that she leaves us as she's a major part of the family now she is about 8 now i think but i love her to bits.

I hope that you will get another dog soon so you wont be sad anymore

So sorry to hear that. When my dog died last spring I was shocked by how I felt. I never expected to feel like I did, I was a mess for days and yet I felt like I shouldn't have been. I cried so much. Eventually I decided to go and get another rescue dog when I was ready, as I felt I could take on and help another dog who no-one wanted.
I got my lovely little badger last autumn and she is fabulous. At first I wasnt sure if I could love another dog, but I do, and I am glad I brought her home! It will get easier, but it is so difficult at first, but just remember, your dog was loved and happy which is all a dog asks for in life.

It is so very hard when a much loved pet dies because he/ she really is one of the family. In time the pain will lessen - you will never forget your dog but you will become more used the loss. In the meantime don't be hard on yourself and let yourself mourn as you need to

Squibbs, I am so sorry. Losing a pet is awful. Don't think that people don't understand, because they do. Many of us know how you feel. I have seen many a grown man weep after losing their pets. When my young cat got run over I took a day off work and cried almost constantly for three days. Should anybody have said 'it's only a pet' I would have had to hurt them!!!

I will need a fortnight off when my beloved dog goes....it hardly bares thinking about. It is the ONLY problem with keeping pets...........we are almost guanranteed to have to lose them and it is unbearably sad.

You are grieving, your familly has lost a much loved member and you will need time to get over it. Be kind to yourself and give yourself some time. It does get easier...honest.

I'm so sorry you have lost your beloved dog, I dread the day we loose any of ours, as they are more than just pets, they play such a big part in your life dont they? You keep looking in the spot they used to lie and feel so sad when they arent there. The last pet we lost was a cat, Rosa, she would sit at the back gate watching the world go by, she was too old to go any further, and everytime I wash the dishes, even now 4 years on, I shed a tear for her, and still miss her so much. Since loosing her we've rescued 3 cats and a dog, (we also got a pup for company for the rescued dog on walks) yet Rosa is still talked about, still loved and missed, the 5 pets cant replace her, but they fill a gap.
It takes time, but you will look back and remember all the good times you had with your beloved dog, and remember you gave her a wonderful life, and she gave you so much in return

I'm very sorry:(

my dog had to be put down last week aged 13 3/4 & I was surprised by the fact that I was ashamed by how much I cried and the fact I couldn't publiclly 'mourn'. The next day I saw a dog that looked nothing like her and went to pieces outside Sainsbury's.

She was a part of my life & family for all her life, but it non-pet owners can't grasp how very much a part of your life they are.
